Dinner on a Sunday night of a public holiday weekend, so Ribe was busy, as was this restaurant. Friendly welcome and quickly seated in the 'second room' on the left as you enter from the street. Plain, but not much atmosphere. Food was much the same it must be said. I had steak bernaise (good steak, crinkly chips and peas from the freezer), and my wife had schnitzel. Both were well enough cooked, and were good portion sizes.

Watch out for the 'luxury beer', as the luxury is that it is 7.2% alcohol, so one was enough for me.

We were in Ribe for only one night, so can not comment on other restaurants, but Backhaus was safe enough.

We had a lovely Danish lunch on our brief stop through historic Ribe. Very friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, not fancy but clean and best of all, very good food & lots of it. We had huge portions! The old building had an uneven slopped floor which added to the charm. We were there during a non-busy time, and our server was attentive and personable. Often one expects the restaurants around the center of the main tourist area to be high priced with mediocre food, but this was not so. Fair prices for very good food. I would enjoy going there again.

The food was very good and the service was excellent. We were part of a tour, so ate a pre-selected menu, which was fine. I thought the food tasted good, but I would not consider it exceptional. We had traditional Danish fare and I enjoyed the experience.

The ambiance was limited. We were in a large room full of tables and entered it from stairs at the street, so did not see much inside. I was not impressed with that part.

Due to busyness we were seated in a seperate room (with a family and 2 other people. There were no cutlery, napkins or candles. Very unwelcoming. The lighting was not contributing to the mood. We had Schnitzel and it was overcooked as was the potatoes wich were greasy and full of burned bits. It was accompanied by overcooked peas and ready-made Bearnaise. The wine was lukewarm. The children of the family wwere served dessert before main, and all in all the staff was very unprofessional. The only positive was that they were nice.

The menu offered traditional Danish/German food but the meat was nothing special, the peas seemed to have been frozen, and the fries weren't crisp. Large portions. Asparagus soup had pieces of a wurst in it that seemed suspicious and were unwelcome (no warning on menu). Server was perhaps an owner (?) and very lovely to everyone. Chatted a lot with locals.
