overpriced and terrible food

Review of Hotel Himalaya
2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 June 2019
Its Kathmandu, so there aren't really many choices but this place is just not worth it. The WIFI didn't work, the food was terrible and the staff are entitled and don't treat you with respect.

They also serve water bottles that have already been opened... not what you want at all!

I’ve been to Nepal about six times now and usually stay at The Summit but got persuaded this time to stay at Hotel Himalaya.

Great location and space. Lovely rooms and good service from staff.

Breakfast was lovely and a great sense of natural light everywhere as it was so big.

Good simple gym but needed the AC on more.

Loved the pool for a relax and great shops outside.

Pros:
Location
Lovely place to unwind on the terrace
Good food

Cons:
Polyester towels - i’d expect 100% cotton towels but not to be. The towering robe was though but the towels weren’t - might have saved a few rupees but really wouldn’t expect that of a hotel of this standard.
Pool - they need to either grow vegetation up around the pool or screen parts of it so it can’t be seen from the terrace. They often have events so people hang around on the terrace at lunch and stare whilst you’re on the sun lounger / swimming. Easily fixable...

I arrived here tired (a long journey by train and plane, with little sleep the previous night), with a full schedule the next day, and asked for a quiet room. The lady at the reception very kindly changed my room for one that was far away from the lift on the 4th floor, and I got eight hours of solid sleep.

The room was a pleasant surprise, spacious, with an additional covered balcony overlooking some greenery in which my morning tea was imbibed. The internet facility worked. The breakfast service too was good (the server managed to get me fried eggs and hot toast together, with coffee 5 minutes later, exactly the sequence that I like).

Stayed at this hotel ahead of an escorted tour of Nepal. It is a very well presented hotel, with a large & airy lobby area, large restaurant overlooking the gardens & swimming pool area. The rooms are well appointed, the hotel is in a good location & base for tours of Kathmandu. The small gift shop selling pashminas & other small gift items is great value & has some lovely items for sale.

Thought to be a good 5 star hotel when entered to stay for 2 nights. Looking at the room felt iis a good room. But found that the service for house keeping was not upto the mark The people were not answring properly and whn asked for additional requirements for tea, a heap was dumped in the room. Airconditioning was not there and only heating was available. When it was hot they said open the windows. When complained provided a fan in the room.
Other services were good for dining, the menu was limited and dining room was small for the size of hotel. Wifi was available only at reception and not in the room but chargeble. Other facilities in the room were adequate. Only business was seen.
the access to the hotel from main road was bad, insufficient parking facility.

Room tip: Senior Citizens to choos room on ground floor
