Our stay was spectacular. It's the most eco friendly hotel we've stayed at in Eastern Costa Rica. The gardens are beautiful and filled with local flora and fauna labelled with signs. They provide biodegradable soap, shampoo and conditioner locally made in containers instead of single use plastic. They support the Corcovado foundation which supports sea turtle conservation, environmental education, community cooperation and sustainable tourism. They have an amazing gallery of insects and butterflies. They also support the no straw campaign and only serve straws upon request. The sell local gelato and craft beer from San Isidrio, made just outside Dominical. They have recycling all around the garden and safety zones. It's absolutely wonderful. The staff were also incredible. Thank you Ariel, Gustavo, and Kevin for making it unforgettable.

Suggestion: Add an organic compost to compost the restaurant food to save the planet and reduce global emissions.

Dear Gloria,

We thank you for such a nice review! the way you describe our eco resort is just amazing!

It is truly important for us to see that you appreciate all our hard work we do to protect our environment, this is a really hard work but we felt in love doing it and now is something that motivate us to keep with this actions that help a lot, we really want to be an example for other hotels that is possible to offer a nice and comfortable stay but also take care of the nature at the same time, we much appreciate you took part of your time to share your experience with Trip Advisor reviewers!

About the compost, we really appreciate your words and suggestion but we actually do that, every day we go twice and sometimes more to our compost located near our trail up on the mountain of Villas Rio Mar.

I have told our staff about your words and they are more than happy to know about it, you have new friends in Costa Rica at Villas Rio Mar and we are already missing you, we really hope to see you back again soon.

We stayed here last minute a few months ago and liked it so much we stayed there again for almost a week while we did business in the area. It has everything you can possible need at a great price. comfortable, private air conditioned rooms on a beautifully landscaped property. A large pool, tennis courts, restaurant/bar area in walking distance of Dominical restaurants and beach. The room also comes with a fabulous hot breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. It is definitely our first choice when we our going to be staying in Dominical.

It is great to see that you came to Villas Rio Mar after a tough trip and found it peaceful and luxurious, for us was more than a pleasure hosting you in and even better reading how much you enjoyed your time in our property!

You are totally right when you describe about the location of Villas Rio Mar! Because our location, we are surrounded by a natural corridor for most popular animals passing by so our guest will enjoy this very often during the stay, seeing lots of birds.

Hoping to see you in a near future again!

Our first stay here was last minute (as we could not stay at the place we had booked) but we liked it so much we ended up going back on our way back up the coast again from Drake Bay.

Positives : the rooms are spread around the property in groups of max four so it is private. Facilities in both the rooms we stayed in were good. The gardens are fabulous and full of birds, we also saw lots of agouti, iguanas, a coati and a jesus christ lizard in the grounds, there is also a trail at the back of the property to look for more wildlife. Pool is large with lots of space to lounge. Included breakfast buffet is good with lots of choice. Restaurant food is also quite good and not overpriced. Close to the river and Dominical town and beach. God choice for families.

Negatives: the staff were generally a bit grumpy. Some of the facilities could do with some renovation, like the minigolf and the shower attached to the wall with plastic straps.

Hi dear traveler, thanks a lot for the time you took to share your opinion about your trip with us and let other travelers know it as well, we truly appreciate your feedback and are really happy to see that you found Villas Rio Mar nice and liked enough to come back from your trip.

It’s nice to see that you highlighted facts as our strategic position of rooms, we try to keep your stay as private as possible, we also love to read our guest telling about our gardens and all the animals you might see around, and as you said, it gets even better when you try the private trail we have at the back of our property.

We really appreciate our guest sharing and telling about opinions such as good prices for our restaurant El Rancho and the food quality, it helps us a lot to know when there are good opinions about it, but it is also important to know about what our guest found negative, and we really take it into account to improve and try to do it better, now that I see your opinion about our staff, please let me tell you that we are going to learn about it and discuss it to avoid this feeling again about our staff, i am also checking your room to find the plastic straps you mentioned and give a solution immediately, I am really sorry for it, but thanks a lot for sharing it with us.

Please reach out to me directly at asistente@villasriomar.com if you would be willing to give us a chance to turn your opinion about our staff around and show you how we changed and improved. It would be such a pleasure to personally welcome you back to our hotel again.

Semi-detached cottages with a lot of privacy situated in a nice park. Small, private veranda. Lay out of room a bit funny. Two bed square of each other. Good, spacious bathroom. No WiFi in the room.
Very nice and big pool with plenty of shadow.
We had diner and it is advised to book a table in advance. Food is OK and service is excellent. Breakfast buffet isn’t that good, though.
About 20 minutes walk to the beach (10 to the beginning of village) along a stony road. The beach was a disappointment. A lot of stones. It is a surfers paradise, but if you don’t like surfing the are nicer beaches around.
