“Chicago Italian”
Review of Twisted Italian

Twisted Italian
Ranked #19 of 312 Restaurants in Peoria
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: USD 8 - USD 15
Cuisines: Italian
Description: Twisted Italian is an Italian based restaurant that goes outside the scope of traditional Italian. While the restaurant's focus is primarily on traditional Italian food, it also goes where most traditional Italian restaurants do not, which make it a bit Twisted. Examples include a bit of Italian fusion such as the Italian Relleno which put an Italian spin on a Mexican classic. The restaurant also goes outside the scope of Italian with items such as homemade pierogis, another European classic which you are not likely to find in other Italian restaurants. The personality of the restaurant may be best described as a cross between a wine bar and a family restaurant. It would be considered upscale/casual.

Twisted Italian is a nice family owned establishment. at the 4 corners area on Lake Pleasant Pkwy. and Happy Valley. The service is very good but you might want to select certain things from the menu. They have a Chicago flair to things. For instance a Chicago style beef sandwich. Or since Chicago has the largest Polish population outside of Warsaw - they have Perogis. If you are not aware of what they are, these are a Polish version of ravioli. A number of different filling options including a Southwest with hot peppers. A great lunch menu that will fill you up for $7.99. The two drawbacks would be 1. They do not serve veal and 2. They charge $4.50 for a twelve ounce bottle of beer when others in the area charge $2.50 for a 16 ounce draft.

We were staying nearby and looking for a nice dinner, this was definitely the place to stop. The wait was long so we sat at the bar and the service was great and the bartender was just the right amount of friendly. Our food was delicious and plentiful. I had the Italian Relleno which was really, really good.

Really, really good prices on some really, really good happy hour choices. And if you run into the regular dinner hour, there are some very nice choices at reasonable prices, too. The meatball sliders are a great deal and very tasty, the Stromboli is full of flavor, and the Mediterranean Sea Bass is authentic and very good. They need to be a bit careful in the cooking, as at different times both our Stromboli and the Sea Bass were slightly overcooked....they could use about a minute less on the grill or in the oven and be close to very EXCEPTIONAL dishes. Worth several visits to try different things on the menu.
