Having read most of the reviews on this hotel on Tripadvisor before making my reservation I was careful to specify a room on a high floor away from the construction. When we arrived at the hotel at about 1:00PM after a very long trip from Los Angeles we checked in and were given a room on the 5th floor. I asked if this room was away from the construction and was told that it was not but that the construction started at 10:00 in the morning and was finished at 3:30 in the afternoon. We went out to get a bit of lunch and returned to the hotel at about 3:00 and were getting ready to take a nap for a couple of hours before dinner. Much to our surprise the jack hammering and drilling did not stop at 3:30 but continued on till after 5:00. I called down several to the desk several times and was told that they did not know what was going on.
The next morning we were woken by the same construction noise at 6:30 AM. Again I called down and this time demanded to talk to the manager. She came to our room and apologized
and changed our room to the type we had requested originally, high floor away from the construction.
Then the problem just compounded. In the next room when you flushed the toilet the water continued to drip for about 20 to 30 minutes so it was like a "WATER TORTURE". Again I called down and they said that they would have it fixed. When we returned that evening and used the toilet the drip was still there. Again we called down and they sent up 2 maintenance men who could not solve the problem and called a third man, I assume a plumber, and after 1/2 an hour he left. When he did not return after an hour I called down again and was told that he said that the toilet was fixed which it was not. I asked for the manager and was told that she was on vacation for a week. I then asked the night manager to come up to our room to hear the problem himself. At first he refused saying he was too busy, but finally did come up and told us that this was quite normal and that all the rooms were the same, which was an obvious lie.
We asked to be moved and he said that he had no other rooms. Since we were going to be staying there for another 4 night we decide to move rather then endure this noise. We finally made arrangements to move for the last 3 nights to a hotel around the corner, The Ayres de Recoleta Plaza. What a relief. There was no comparison in the 2 hotel. The Ayres had a bright a large entry as against a dark 10 by 10 foot one at Urban Suites. The rooms were very similar as both hotel are all suite. But the difference in the staff was the best part, at Ayres they were always smiling and could not do enough for you.
After having such a HORRIBLE experience at URBAN SUITES to start our vacation we were
delighted that we found a great hotel AYRES DE RECOLETA PLAZA to complete it.
