“Fabulous location, stunning service, food .... well this is certainly not Japan”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 December 2011

We were really excited to be dining at M, it looks ostentatious from the outside and we always wondered what was inside. The reviews looked great so off we went! I need to say this is not a bad review but there are a few technical problems with the food.
Setting is really opulent but in no way stuffy. You can wear your groovy kit here or a suit and it really would not matter (but, no trainers with jeans please). Having said that there are chips in the really cheap table tops (no table cloths), the backs of the very comfortable chairs were all chipped where they had been banged against walls or adjacent tables. The place settings were a little uneven and not much thought had gone into the table lay out with soy sauce and dipping bowls etc. So attention to detail on the styling is not a strong point for a place that places so much emphasis on the ‘look and feel’.
The food. The food tasted great. Balance of flavours was spot on, a little underwhelming in places but nothing that seemed like the chef was having a bad day. What was not executed well was the basics. The sushi rice was not cooked well. It was sticky and stuck to the plate as we lifted the roll with our chop sticks. The ratio on the roll was out and the technique left a little to be desired in that they easily fell apart. I won’t bother to get picky, that is probably enough said. If you have lived in Japan like I have and regularly make Maki’s at home you really want the technique to be better than you can do yourself.
We did not try any of the Peruvian food and I would bother to go back another time to try that side of the menu as we may have a better experience. It was not outrageously expensive, just over 400 pesos for 2 hot and 2 cold dishes, a couple of drinks and a desert.
I need to note that the next day that my friend had an upset stomach and my whole meal was ‘repeating’ and we both had a really bad taste in our mouths for the next 24 hours. But it could have just been coincidence.

“Good food in a strange place”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2011

The service is slow and inattentive, but the food is excellent (try the seafood ceviche and shrimp and salmon sashimi), but the place, although very beautiful, has a strange atmosphere. We do not feel comfortable dining in this restaurant.
