We stayed at Sugarbird Manor after spending a week in central Cape Town and wanted somewhere quiet and peaceful but not too far from the centre of town and surrounding vineyards. Sugarbird Manor is less than a ten minute drive from central Stellenbosch and was perfect for us in terms of location and tranquility. The views are lovely and the infinity pool is a great place to relax around (although perhaps a little cold in March to spend any length of time in). The rooms are well proportioned, modern in design and offer every amenity you would expect - a reflection I think of Ginny (the owner's) American roots.

Don't be put off by the mention of cats! My husband and I are not cat lovers but enquired about this before we arrived and Ginny kept them at bay during our stay. The odd one we did see from afar kept to itself and was no bother at all.

A bbq dinner can be provided on request but we didn't bother - there are too many great places to eat nearby. And perhaps the quietness of the guest house would be a little unatmospheric for dinner with just two of you. Our highlight was a meal at the Rust en Vrede wine estate restaurant (recommended and booked by Ginny) which was one of the best meals we've ever had and thoroughly recommended. Breakfast was very good as was all the service we encountered.

My wife and I have stayed here several times now. We think of it as our own little secret. So close to the charm of Stellenbosch, but secluded enough that you feel like you're on an island. The place oozes "relaxation". Rooms all modern with nice bathroom fixtures. Comfy bed and lots a tv channels. On one occasion we've took our 2 little kids along and they loved the pool which seems to be very new. But this is probably not a place to take youngsters who may need jungle-gyms and merry-go-rounds. Atmosphere here is tranquil.

The owner is a charm. She's got a neat vision of how her flower farm, wine farm, and lovely B&B all fit together. I am not sure I quite get it, but it's a neat place to stay and her wine tastes great. We'll keep coming!!

Yes, Stellenbosch is not lacking grand views, but this B&B is simply stunning. We stayed in a range of 4-5* places during this holiday, but the design of the room, and the size (thought we had suite, I admit) here are just impressive! For the ones who love gardening, go, go, go! It is active protea farm. I sneaked a plant, given by Ginny, to me trunk, and am now growing it at home. Ginny was lovely, relaxed lady and helped a lot with winery trip etc. We had our boys of 5 and 9 with us and they jumped in that pool upside down, loved it. The plus is aslo very close proximity to Stellenbosch itself, so you don't feel dropped in the middle of nowhere. Ultra clean, gorgeous bath design. Ginny is American, by the way.

Sugarbird Manor was a perfect winter getaway located in the rolling hills above Stellenbosch with incredible views across the vineyards to the south and east including three ranges of mountains and even the ocean on a clear day. After our many excursions to Cape Town, local vineyards and to the neighboring towns, it was always so relaxing to return to the quiet sanctuary of Sugarbird. The afternoon light was unbelievable.

Gini, Chris and Megan were extremely helpful with suggesting day trips and with our ever changing itinerary. This included managing to negotiate the price of three day safari to Kruger National Park down to within our budget. This required adjusting and booking several flights into our existing itinerary. We simply wouldn't have been able to make it without them.

The rooms were impeccably maintained and were very quiet. The rest of the staff were always there for us, without being overbearing. Every morning there was an extensive array of fruits, cereals, yogurts, juices, breads, excellent muffins, and of course made to order menu as well, (try the Eggs Benedict).

All in all, the we found Sugarbird to be a perfect base camp for exploring Cape Town and the wine country.

We had a great stay here at the Sugarbird and the staff could not have been more helpful. We would like to thank Megan for all her hard work in saving us with our car hire crisis - she was brilliant!

Chris showed us around some of the local vinyards, which was great fun and it is clear that Ginny and Chris have a real love for wine.

You must try Ginny's latest Chenin Blanc whilst sat by the perfect infinity pool. That was magic!

The rooms were fabulous and the location perfect - we will be back!
