We are sponsers of a Fish Eagle 'Neptune' there, this venue does so much good work, a visit is always of great interest.

This place is just awesome. The wildlife is well looked after. I had arranged for my son to have a personal encounter with a Black Eagle. The young man who assisted him was absolutely professional from the get-go. Although our time was limited as we only got there a bit late, they also let you go into one of the cages so that you can touch some of the eagles. Must have been marvelous. Next time I will definitely go much earlier.

Right next door to the Cheetah outreach on Spiers Wine estate, the Eagle Encounters allows you to get close up with birds of prey. They have loads there!! You can also get your photo taken holding an Owl which was pretty cool! The birds seem happy enough about it too. It was R30 each to get in (no discounts for kids) but I thought it was well worth it!

Can give it a miss, unless you really want to pat an Owl.

The facility is on the Spier winer estate and although it is described as encounters with eagles you do meet falcons, owls and other birds of prey. All the birds at the sanctuary have either been orphaned or have otherwise been rescued/need help .
A well informed guide explains how they assist the birds to return to the wild and other interesting info about their way of life and senses.
They also fly the birds . As one of the 2 people in our group who was wearing a hat I was useful in having a platform on which the birds could land . Without a hat they would land on your hand.
Close up the birds are lovely creatures.
The main purpose of the sanctuary is to act as an education tool in teaching people about birds of prey and I feel that it does this well.
