Two night business stay at the V&A.

Positives: It's a perfect location if you're on vacation, as it is in the heart of the Waterfront, so you can walk 2 mins to the shops and restaurants. Free parking, subject to capacity. This is pretty near peak time and they found me a space each evening. Gorgeous building. Excellent breakfast - really fresh fruit and lots of choice, and dining out with views over the harbour and up to Table Mountain. Comfortable bed, clean room, quiet AC. Free wifi welcomed, generally worked ok, but did drop signal on occasion. Staff friendly enough.

Negatives: mainly lie around staff training and room conditions.
> On arrival around 7pm, the AC had been off all day. Outside temperature: 30 degrees, inside room temperature 35 degrees. The turn down choc squidged to a blob when I picked it up. Not a good welcome.
> I was on the 3rd floor "loft" room. Spacious but with sloping roof and two Velux loft windows that opened directly onto the illuminated Ferris Wheel (with very bright lights on until midnight and although relatively few people use it, they would have direct line of sight into the room) and the music/noise from the bar opposite. So had to sleep with blinds drawn, dependent on AC rather than the wonderful SA fresh air.
> Hot water was at best tepid on first night, at around 1930. Hot at other times but one is not paying budget prices at this location. I see others have commented on the same thing.
> Toiletries weren't replaced, or rather the virtually empty ones were put back. A really minor bugbear but not so great when you find it out just before you shower.
> An beer glass - left about 1/3 full - from the bar brought up to the room on the wed evening was still there on Friday check out. That's unacceptable.
> The hotel website promised a swimming pool. It's actually in their sister location the Dock House. Hardly possible to wander over there in a robe.
> Personal bugbear - those security hangers that have fixed loops. They scream that the hotel doesn't trust its guests.

If I was in Cape Town on vacation, and wanted to be slap-bang in the waterfront, then this is worth a look. But not for business travel, even with free wifi, and I dare say you could do better in town itself.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't overlook the Ferris Wheel, especially if on the 3rd floor.

Perfect location! Super friendly staff! Great rooms! And on my son's birthday, they even brought up a birthday cake made by the chef to the room! Best spot in Cape Town

Just came back from an amazing trip to South Africa: four days in Cape Town, 5 days in Mala Mala, where we saw many, many animals - the Big Five Plus, Plus, Plus - back to Cape Town, then down the Cape Peninsula, over to Hermanus, up to Franschhoek, and finally back to Cape Town. With each return to Cape Town, we returned to the Victoria and Alfred Hotel and each time, from the very first day, we felt that we were at home. The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful - and I mean everyone. Help was offered before we asked for it, and this even extended to the best roads to take to the places we were going to visit after Cape Town and where to stop to eat. We left our luggage at the hotel when we traveled outside of the city, and when we returned, they knew how many pieces of luggage we had left without our having to tell them, as if they were just waiting for us to return. On the returns, we were immediately greeted by name and made to feel comfortable and welcome, always with big smiles. I have traveled a great deal and have never felt so at home and so taken care of as I was at the V & A. In addition, the food at the hotel restaurant in excellent. Now as I sit in New York in winter, I dream about the delicious breakfasts on the terrace over the harbor. Many, many thanks to all there.
P.S. My only suggestion would be to put a clothes hook on the bathroom door; otherwise, it's perfect.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a room facing Table Mountain. What views.

This is the second time we have stayed here and it is consistantly good. The rooms are spacious (make sure you have a harbour/mountain view) and comfortable. The food and service are of a high standard.
Being in the heart of the waterfront is marvellous with everything within walking distance.
If you have a car there is free parking.
A superb place to stay.
