What a great way to start off a Saturday. Decided to take a walk through with my children one Saturday and we really enjoyed it...

From the diamond that follows your through the entrance to the "real life" mine shaft to replicas that will mesmerize you.

I must see for all.

Thank Candice K

It's not really a museum - there is one apartment sized room. Here's how it goes:

a) There is a timeline that is a wall of text and the guide reads it out loud to you

b) There are several replicas of famous diamonds - shown for size only

c) The 'guide' plays a corny 5-minute movie about the 4Cs on a small TV screen

d) Then you are shown to the 'workshop' where the diamond workers are doing their thing - which for us consisted primarily of empty chairs because everyone had already left

e) This portion lasts ~10 minutes. You are then shepharded into the sales showroom, where you shown diamonds that you likely have no intention of buying. Awkwardly you have ask the tour guide to let you out as the room is locked.

Our 'guide' was nice and did the best she could, and is the only reason why this place gets 2 stars. Skip this. For sure.

It was if not one of the best outings I have experienced in many a year. The proffessional and knowledgeable Kelly and staff took us on a mind whirling experience of the true nature of diamonds and their history. A must for all.

My friend and I visited the Diamond museum a few days ago on our trip to Cape Town. Our guide was MARE!! She was super helpful and informative. All of the ladies were super nice, they even let me keep my bag of souvenirs at the front desk while I toured because it was getting so heavy and hand delivered it right back to me as we finished.
Mare told us stories about the largest diamond ever discovered and Erasmus; who gave up a 12 carat (I believe) diamond to a farmer for a couple of cattle and sheep (Poor guy)!

Then we learned of the different types...the My Girl was completely stunning.
I highly recommend the tour!

Also, Mare had an awesome pen with a diamond replica at the top; super cute. I never found the shop that sold it. :(

Situated in the Clock Tower Precinct at the Victoria & Albert Waterfront, this wonderful museum offers an informative overview of the history of diamonds, along with life-size replica's of the world's most famous. There was so much to see!

When we entered, a young man told our group of 36 that we would have about 10 minutes for the tour. Alas, it was five minutes at most!

The guide appeared more interested in rushing us into the showroom as soon as he could. We definitely did not have time for more than a brief glance at the exhibits--and definitely not enough to read more than one or two descriptions. It was so very disappointing.
