Madi a Thavha is really a special place. It is not far away from Makhado/Louis Trichard and the road, at least in the dry season, is not a problem. The lodge is situated at the foothills of the Soutpanberge, in a beautifull garden with trees, flowers and birds. The little museum is very interesting showing the history of Limpopo and its original inhabitants, including beautifull pieces of art. Do not expect total luxury; the lodge is comfortable, the rooms are spacious, the food is good but everything is more or less as you expect at home. But then, the price is accordingly and the way Marcella and Paul talk about what the have done and want to do in this remote area of the world is very inspiring. Madi a Thavha is an excellent place to stay one or two nights on your way to the Northern Kruger or if you want to get to know more about Venda people and culture.

Beautiful and spacious accommodation - quite unique in pleasant surroundings. The decor is tastefully down in an ethnic but luxurious style. Well worth the stay - extraordinary value! Owner managed. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Beautiful linen but only one pillow each. Ask for another if you need to.

Beautiful location with own hiking trail to a Baobab tree and a waterfall. Local art and history of the region on display. Self-catering unit is large and well-equipped. Swimming-pool, WiFi, good breakfast.

Stayed at several places around Louis Trichardt on a birding holiday but this place was by far the best. Loved the accommodation and the staff was so friendly and helpful. We are already planning on going back and staying longer.

Room Tip: If you can, get Fundudzi room. Very spacious with great views from your own private balcony.

After a long flight from Amsterdam, we drove to Madi A Thavha lodge, close to Louis Trichardt. It is a long drive and the road to the lodge is a gravel road, but is was absolutely worth the drive. The lodge and it surroundings is like a little oasis in the Soutpansbergen. We booked the Nwadeni Suite, a big room with a seperate sitting area with kitchen and fire place, a spacious bed room and a huge bath room with seperate shower and bath. The only minir is that the bath room is "open plan" so no doors or whatsoever. In the evening we had a 3-course dinner which was very, very good and tasty. The breakfast is the morning was also quite good. We especially liked the freshly baked bread, not very common in South Africa. During the day we did the walk to the big baobab tree. Highly recommended: the views are magnificent. In the afternoon we just relaxed at the swimming pool, although the sun disappeared quite quickly behind the trees during the winter time. We had an excellent stay here and it was a very good start of our holiday to visit the northern part of South-Africa.
