SunSun is Durban's best kept secret. Delicious food, great service and spotless restaurant. Fantastic Taiwanese cuisine. Dim Sum, pork chops and noodles are great. Great prices and quality. A must try.

I am still going to Sun Sun on a regular basis. I love the B23 soup and their pickled radish that they give as a side dish. The fried pork dumplings are delicious also.

Sun Sun has a little bit of cult status in Durban, as being the most "authentic" of the (non-Indian) eastern restaurants. My daughter, a vegetarian loves it, and took us there. We have travelled in Hong Kong and Vietnam and we eat plenty of local eastern food and are well past the Western orientated "Menu A/Menu B" style of eating, and were looking forward to it. We would probably have gone for a hotpot, but that's not easy with a vegetarian, so we chose a variety of individual dishes. Regarding these, the spring rolls were average, the veg dish was reported to be excellent, the prawns OK, and the meat in my pork chop soup was heavy, dry and with a musty-flavoured coating, nothing like the tender pork with delicate flavours that I have experienced elsewhere in SA and the East. The broth itself was bland and flavourless. Service was good, but ambience non-existent, although with Far-Eastern dining that is common and its importance secondary to the food. Acknowledging, in fairness, that one of us really enjoyed her food, I still think that the experience was no more than average.

We have shopped and eaten at Sun Sun for a couple of years and watched them expand and grow. You can always tell what kind of establishment you are dealing with by the clientele. And the Chinese folk eat here. We ate on a Tuesday and the special was buy one fried noodle dish, get one free. Excellent value for 2 to eat for R60. The pak choi was fresh and crunchy. Check your drinks prices as they have not updated the menues.

I was not impressed by the service and the food. It is a very pricy restaurant for Chinese'/Taiwanese. The seating is horrific, no ambiance at all. Long wait for a waiter to attend and a long wait for the food as well.
