Reviewed 13 July 2012

To anyone considering booking at the calabash Inn, Glenashleigh, Durban North - DON'T DO IT.
The web page looks really rather nice but the Calabash Inn is not anything like it is advertised. My family of 4 were booked to stay there on the 6th and 7th July 2012. We arrived at about 3pm last Friday. We were shown to our 2 rooms. The overpowering stink of garlic and smoke hit us. The 2 double rooms we had were absolutely dreadful. My husband and I had to clamber through a plastic curtain kind of contraption to get to the toilet/shower. There was only 1 small towel and a hand towel. The sheets were threadbare and the pillows were so thin there may as well not have been any. There was no kettle in the 1 room. The televisions were tiny (i don't think smaller ones are available). The paint was peeling off the walls ...and I could continue. We could not stay in that disgusting place and when I asked for a refund we were told absolutely NOT. My advise to anyone needing accommodation in Durban is look somewhere else - don't stay at the Calabash Inn unless you are happy with revolting accommodation.

Room Tip: Don't stay there

I booked this place on 28th October 2008 for eight people in June 2009. They asked for full payment and this was agreed. Now on 28th January 2009 they claim to be overbooked. If this is how they run their business then perhaps we have had a lucky escape and will be going elsewhere. Or is it just a simple case of being able to extract more money from rugby fans travelling to the Lions game
