Owner description: This is Durban’s evocative and graphic apartheid museum and includes an interesting beer brewing and distribution exhibit.

We visited as part of a walking tour and found a very informative museum with a detailed exhibitions on HIV and Apartheid. A small museum that will not take a huge amount of time to explore but an important part of Durban's history.

This is the place to go if you want to learn about how Blacks were treated if they want to get permit to seek work in Durban during the apartheid era between 1910 to 1975.

I took a visitor from Norway to this museum an felt VERY let down. The staff didn't even seem to notice that we were there. No friendly greetings, no informative help, just nothing. The displays were also very rundown.... Durban can and should do a better job of this very important museum!

Despite checking websites - and the board outside - were dropped off here to find it was closed on New Year's Eve (which is a normal working day).

This trip gives a great idea of how bad the segregation was during the apartheid times in South Africa. From bars to taxis to dompasses, this museum bares it all perfectly.
