Description: Market is a world-class garden café/restaurant, situated in a quiet courtyard behind a classic 1930’s colonial building at the foot of Durban’s Berea in Marriott Road. Market serves simple quality cuisine using locally and/or organic sourced ingredients in a professional, unique, and caring environment. Market is also known for its selection of award winning South African wines, freshly squeezed fruit juices and coffee. Our fine dining dinner food specials change regularly and provide the perfect catalyst for any occasion, whether it be your first date or a birthday celebration. The courtyard has a central fountain surrounded by a a ring of Leopard trees, which provide all year mottled shade and its peaceful atmosphere. The outdoor furniture and tables are modeled around 18th century French garden furniture, adding to Market’s allure. The restaurant’s indoor section is more a modern minimalist while still providing the feeling of dining somewhere in Europe. Market is always available for big parties, private functions or weddings.

We literally got off the plane from CT and drove into Durban with time to spare before meeting family. I read about this place in Lonely Planet and the review was spot on. The restaurant was buzzing with Christmas lunches but they found us a table. The service was excellent, especially as it was so busy. The food was delicious and you just felt care was taken in all of the preparation. The courtyard setting had shade and a light breeze from the heat which was a godsend when not used to the humidity here. Only a little more pricey than some cafe lunches but well worth it! We are from the UK so the £ is going a long way...lucky us.

Love the restaurant. Had such a wonderful meal. The setting and vibe is perfect. Service is top quality. More pricey but we'll worth it. Waiters are very professional and honest and well trained. Best idea to open at night as well as day time. Well done to Market.

Went here for dinner on recent visit to Durban - could be better signposted. We hadn't booked and all inside tables and tables on the top balcony outside were all reserved. We were seated in the courtyard area which was OK by us, but were very disappointed that these tables were not set up with tablecloths for dinner (the other tables mentioned were and looked so much better for a night time dining experience).
The staff were very attentive, and one of them brought me a blanket without having to be asked (it was a chilly night which ended up with a rain storm).
The food quality and selection and presentation was very good (sort of upmarket bistro style). We chose pork belly and duck leg confit and grilled duck breast (the leg confit skin could have been crispier and the breast not quite so rare for me, the pork belly was cooked just as my husband likes it.
We would visit again and would recommend.

Tucked in behind a linen store by the same name, this garden restaurant is an oasis in a busy and chaotic city. Stop by for a freshly made juice or espresso. The spicy quinoa salad was very tasty. Very friendly and helpful staff. I could spend the entire day there. Nice spot to stop in after going to the Botanic Gardens

Have made this our regular venue. .Light but tasty offerings at lunch time, Comprehensive menu in the evenings. Live music on Fridays from 12.30 to 14.00.
