“savvy location with deluxe accommodations”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

The Michelangelo Hotel in Sandton, SA is located in a great location at the Nelson Mandela Square. There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, as well as, wonderful stores in the attached mall. We were on the second floor, with a view of the court yard, but I imagine that a higher floor would have been even nicer. Since we were only there for one night, our location was perfect!

We had a deluxe king room and it was very spacious and comfortable, with a sitting area, and a large bathroom. Lots of in-room amenities, such as slippers, robes, coffee, tea, cookies, chocolates and of course lotions, soaps and shampoo. The toilet was located in a separate room with a door (nice), but it could have been a little cleaner. Perhaps they should mop the bathroom floors better, especially around the toilet.

However, everything else seemed clean and well kept. The hotel staff was very helpful and the concierge recommended a great spot for before dinner drinks (Sandton Sun Terrace Bar) and a wonderful place for dinner (Moyo). The hotel breakfast the next morning was delicious - but do ask for a menu as they offer both a buffet and menu choices. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to all!

Dear SouthernGurl02

We appreciate your comments about your recent stay with us. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback.

We are however slightly disappointed that the cleanliness of the bathroom was not quite up to expectation. We have relayed this feedback to our Executive Housekeeper and we trust that we will delight you on your next visit.

Thank you once more for sharing your experience, and as always we look forward to serving you in the future.

Warm Regards,

The Michelangelo Hotel Team

When in Johannesburg please find time to visit the lounge of the Michelangelo if you don't have the very good luck to be staying at the wonderful hotel. Within the speed and stress of a city experience this is an oasis of calm and relaxation. The pina colada must be the most perfect made any where ever! The rooms are spacious and quiet and better than most city hotels.

Room Tip: Choose a room that overlooks the square.

I stayed here for 6 nights on business, normally staying at the Hilton down the road. First of the hotel is in a good location. It is next to the Mandela square and leads in to the Shopping Mall. You arrive at the lower ground and greeted by friendly guys in coats and take you to reception. It has a grand feeling to it, but a little tired, a little on the colonial side of things. i was checked in easily and directed to my room, they even have someone by the lift ready to push the button for you. My rooms was a good size, with a double bed which was comfortable, noisy aircon, small steps to my sofa and TV, which was hard to control from the bed and offset at the wrong angle. My windows opened to Mandela Sq but you could not see much on the first floor. The bathroom was tidy, with bath and shower which was always well stocked every day. Wireless was available in the room, however always flaky through out the hotel. The pool on the first floor was tiny, the gym ok for cardio and a couple of weights, nothing major.

I only used the restaurant for breakfast, service was under average, too many waiters standing around, and the same for the bar/lounge area, needs focus, you needed to ask for service however one or two were ok.

Dont use the hotel car service, its 3 time the cost of getting a taxi by the same guys outside the hotel, for the same cars, work that out!

Food was ok, it was not anything special but also not bad.

Overall not a bad hotel, best location, quite grand at first but doesn't excite.

Room Tip: ask for high room....
