When we visited the Blue Crane restaurant, we were enjoyably surprised, as our previous visit was unpleasant with neglectful waiting staff and discourteous managers.
This venue, under new management, which is an institution in Pretoria due to its location next to the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary has breath-taking views and offers a wide variety of dishes either a la carte or a set menu.
For early lunch, we shared a Chicken Musakhan Wrap and Pork Jaeger Schnitzel. The wrap, made with a Palestinian chicken recipe, was beautifully prepared and appetizing as the subtle hints of all the delicate spices were caught in the filling of the wrap. The Pork jaeger Schnitzel was served with freshly grilled vegetables and mash, accompanied by flavourful gravy (a secret blend of an aperitif and herbs). The vegetables, mash, and gravy were very delicious despite the Schnitzel itself being a bit dry and the crumbs tasting a bit stale.
The lovely server serving us was very attentive, as were all the staff and managers we encountered with our visit. Considering the new management, we will highly recommend this restaurant and bar again.
