A drive through this magnificent park is well worth it for anyone travelling to and from Clarens. It probably adds an extra 40 minutes onto your travelling time. But it is so worth it.

Drove through the park on our way to and from Clarens. There is no entrance fee, however it is recommended to give a donation. The road through the park is such a stunning route that snakes through the bushveld and up into the majestic mountains. The sandstone formations are really a marvel to behold. I have seen wildlife on previous trips but was not so lucky this time. Do note that there are no fences bordering the road, so be on the lookout for wildlife crossing the road. There are a couple of look out points and many picnic and hiking sites, if you are planning on any of these activities, come well prepared as there no amenities or stores for many kilometres aorund.

We needed a sanity break and chose to go to Golden gate park. Since we were late to book all accommodation was taken, except the last cabin in Basotho cultural village.

I am so glad we got to stay here. The accommodation was clean and functional. Check in was easy peasy since all payments are done online.

The rondawel we had is for handicapped guests. You are allowed to book it last minute if you are not mobility impaired.

It was bigger than the others, catering for a wheelchair of course. Two bathrooms each with a wc or sink. One had shower and other one had toilet.

Kitchen is extension of bedroom but very functional. All crockery and cutlery but there was no wine corkscrew so bring your own. Microwave and two plate countertop stove. No oven. Small Weber braai which worked well enough.

The vistas in the park is amazing. I've never seen a sunset so beautiful either. Game was rare over the weekend but the other sites made up for it. The hike to echo ravine was totally worth it but done be fooled, its a bit of a climb and not for the totally unfit.

There was a jackal kill just outside the camp one night. Exciting! Make sure your kraal gates are closed at night. We were negligent but the rangers always came to check. We also did the drive up to Highlands. Steep drive up and down. Good path and I did see a sedan in the lower parking. Beautiful Views and cabins.

Go, the park is gorgeous!

The views are simply breath taking! We stayed in Clarens and took a short drive through. We were lucky enough to see Zebra and Baboons and in the distance what looked to be wildebeest.

Two things that could be improved 1- the roads had loads of potholes, not bad enough to prevent us going but if left unchecked would be a problem. 2- the vulture hide was a complete disappointment. When speaking to the info desk no one knew when the last sighting was, or when the last feeding was. On arrival the hide was all closed up and on entering the inside was a bit dilapidated. We stayed for about an hour and did not see any signs of birds never mind vultures.
