The gardens are very beautiful and there are a few interesting things to see within the gardens such as the astronomical stones. The gardens themselves have a variety of plants from cycads to aloes and proteas. There are several refuse bins along the pathways but we were sad to see quite a lot of litter strewn around. Fort Selwyn is also located in the gardens. There is a restaurant on the grounds but it was closed when we visited in the new year. The impressive statue of a settler family, which was scupltured by Ivan Mitford-Barberton, can be seen at the entrance to the monument. This sculptor is famous for other works such as the Jock of the Bushveld statue at Barberton.
