We booked our trip to Bora Bora with Easy Tahiti. They arranged all of our transportation and got us a fantastic deal staying at the Maitai. We liked that the property is owned by locals and small enough to never feel crowded. The location is fantastic for snorkeling and for exploring the island. We saw several rays and tons of colorful fish in front of and under the overwater bungalows. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. I would stay here again, especially in the overwater bungalows and I highly recommend Tatiana at Easy Tahiti for planning all of your travel needs.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for an overwater bungalow.

Great hotel for the price you pay for. Great staffs. Restaurant on site. Convenient to grocery store. Has its own beach. Air conditioned rooms. Free Wifi available in reception. Clean hotel! Activities and tours available.

Room Tip: Get a bungalow room if you want to jump in the water and swim with the fishes.

We had been seeking overwater accomodation in bora bora without the premium prices of the luxury resorts and the maitai appeared to offer this so we booked 4 nights there.

The bungalows are in the lagoon, but on the edge of relatively deep water so they don't extend as far offshore as at some other locations, but we still got the overwater experience with an adequately sized room with the glass coffee table view into the water below, separate bathroom and toilet and good sized balcony.

Being on the edge of deep water and near to a reef there were often plenty of tropical fish around the bungalow, particularly at night. One disadvantage of the location appeared to be that it was exposed to the wind, and the water was choppy for all of our stay, not sure if that is normal however, and it is not a problem as the beautiful and more sheltered public matira beach is just a short walk down the road.

With Nice big comfy bed, ceiling fan, air conditioner and refridgerator the unit had all the essentials and it was a pleasure to sleep with the gently lapping sound of water below.

Food at the resort restaurant and bar were quite basic but affordable, and with a sandwich shop open at lunchtime which offered a variety of large and tasty snacks at low prices.

Being on the main island of bora bora rather than one of the outer motus it was easy to visit other restaurants, a couple of which were within easy walking distance, and provided good food and service.

The resort staff are friendly, and whilst French is clearly the most common first language for staff and guests, English was generally understood.

Overall the maitai is strongly recommended for those seeking the bora bora experience without the luxury and prices of the top-end resorts.

Room Tip: Choose an over water bungalow

Over the water bungalow is the hallmark hotel room for Tahiti vacation, but the lagoon view room at Hotel MaiTai given you another perspective of Bora Bora lagoon. We stayed at the highest level (3rd floor), we were able to look down and far on the Bora Bora lagoon, which has several different shades of blue. It is like the fantasy sea especially when the sun light is strong. It is unbelievable and majestic. You can not have gain such an experience with over the water bungalow. If you must stay at over the water bungalow, then I don't think hotel Mai Tai should be your choice because the water color there is not as vivid as those big hotels on the east side of the island. I don't think those big hotels build ocean view rooms.

Plus, hotel Maitai is own and operated by local Tahitian people, they are very friendly and helpful. It is clean which is very important to me. They use real sea shell to compose the lobby decoration, very Tahitian feeling. Recommend to support local business unless you want to pay extra bucks for the luxury hotels.

Room Tip: Best ocean/lagoon view
