We stayed ate the hotel recently during a trip to Bora Bora and Tahiti. This hotel itself is very nice and the location is simply spectacular. The accommodation is nicely decorated and the rooms/ villas are a nice size. We stayed in an onshore villa which was perfectly acceptable.

The hotel does not promote this in advance however there is a £80 charge per person for the boat transport from the airport to the hotel, so before you even set foot in there resort, a could are down £160 (200 dollars) on a return trip.

The airport is half the distance to the hotel as the hotel is to the main island, however the cost of the airport taxi is double the cost. This seems like pure opportunism in over charging.

We were offered breakfast as we had arrived early for a room check-in. We took up the offer only to find out that the breakfast costs £50 per person. So another £100 down before even getting access to the room. The breakfast was however very nice.

The water is non drinkable, yet the hotel only provide two small half litre bottle per room per day which seems rather mean considering the prices that are paid for the room on a per night basis.

We at in the restaurant on the first night and were disappointed. Whilst the produce was good quality, the actual taste of the food was bland, small and simply unsatisfying. From then on we decided to take the boat to the mainland each night (at a cost of £40) for two people to eat in the restaurants there.

We tried on two occasions to get a reservation at the sister hotel - Saint Regis, but this was not possible.

The WIFI is good at this hotel.

So, in summary, the hotel is beautiful, the food, the additional costs of service and opportunistic pricing. I know that many people who visit Bora Bora are visiting for a special celebration - honeymoon etc, however, its worth at least considering all of these extras in advance of going.

Ia orana dear guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review our resort in regards to your recent stay at the Le Méridien Bora Bora.
We are glad that overall your stay was great, that you enjoyed our location, our villas; although the food at the restaurant was not to your taste.
Our price ranges are up to the level of prices used in similar category of hotels in French Polynesia.
We hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back
Kind regards,

We stayed six absolutely perfect nights at the le meridien. Staying in one of the stunning overwater bungalows is a fantastic experience. The restaurants are expensive but deliver exceptional quality for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wifi is very fast and stable. Staff is very friendly and helpful - a true paradise on earth.

Room Tip: overwater bungalow with mt otemanu view

Huge glass window in over-water bungaloos with lights at night that provide fish viewing as attracted to light. Saw swarms of small fish/minnows followed by 6 to 8 bigger fish. Nice and spacious room with very comfortable king bed with curtain, nice stone shower as well as outside fresh-water shower to use when taking stairway down into water. Also long walkway to rest of hotel facilities or could call for golf cart to pick you up. Check-in/out offered showers if room not ready or wanted more time before flight home. Breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of variety of normal and exotic foods. Swimming in a protected/gated salt water lagoon that had colorful fish including: Angel, Trigger and colorful clams (shiny fluorescent blue lips); snorkel mask and tube were free. No waves and very safe. In the ocean, you had free access to non-motorized craft (paddleboards, kayaks, sailboat). All staff was friendly to very friendly, spoke good English, and wanted to make sure that you were relaxing and/or enjoying yourself. Bartender/waitress at Miki Bar was very friendly and kind. Hostess (from France) at the French Restaurant was very friendly, spoke great English and offered to set up a table for the 4 of us under the palm trees by the pool instead of eating under the large hut-style restaurant (engaged, name maybe Madelein?). I wrote down peoples names but can not find my paper notes. The two guys at the beach/sports hut set up hammocks for us under palm trees and were very friendly. One of them walked by the beach area several times daily playing the ukulele; other was Ken that took us out on a private sailboat for the 3 of us for about 45 minutes.

Iaorana. My wife, daughter and her friend stayed for 4 nights and were just blown away by the beauty of the area, the fantastic rooms over the lagoon and the overall pleasure of dealing with your staff during our stay. We enjoyed the turtle recovery centre experience. Not everyday we get to clean turtles and swim with them. Planning tours from the booking office was a breeze and having Creme Brulee served in a coconut shell just added another dimension to our stay. We even had Manta Rays swimming under our over water bungalow. This was such a memorable experience and one that will stay with us forever. Mauruuru but I won't say nana as we will return!!

Room Tip: All units over the water are the best

Everything that you would hope for in a lifetime destination. Are the over water bungalows as spectacular as the pictures? Yes! Paradise on earth! Le Meridien does it right. From the minute they pick you in a boat through your entire stay. From housekeeping to the food service it's first class all the way.
