We honeymooned at this resort In June 2011. We were fortunate to have a premium overwater bungalo (overlooking Mt Otemanu). We had a great time at this resort. The private lagoon was a distinctive feature. Swimming so close to the sea turtles afforded some great photo opportunities. Unless the resort is booked, you have a good chance of being upgraded to an overwater bungalow. In my opinion, the further over the ocean, the better, although the walk can be a bit repetitive repetitive. The resort offers free windsurfing, so do not be shy to take advantage of this. One individual (I forgot his name) was an excellent instructor. It was my first time, and when I managed to sail a bit to far from shore, he came and picked me up in the boat. It was very windy, which made it all that much more fun! The infinity pool was amazing. I can't imagine a much better view. Don't be afraid to fill your water up in the gym...we weren't and were still here : )

Stayed in an overwater bungalow for 5 nights and loved it. However it is expensive once you get to the place, which we were aware about before we came, so no real cause for grumbing. The bungalows look like they have been recently renovated and are huge.
Points you should be aware of:
Boat Transfer from the airport is approx 7000xpf return per person
Buffet breakfasts are very expensive around 3,500xpf per person. We ordered off the in room menu and found it not only cheaper but it was great to haver breakfast on our balcony.
We had dinner off the a la carte menu for 2 nights,it was nice and not too expensive. There were quite a few people with meal packages that included buffet dinner, however while there was plenty of food available it did not look appertising.
You will find the restaurants on Bora Bora Island are similar pricing to the resort.
The resort offers free boat rides to and from the Island (based on a set timetable), you can book restaurants on the Island from the resort. AVOID BLOODY MARY's!!! The place is terrible (see my seperate review).
The man made lagoon with coral, fish and turtles is great to snorkel in as you really don't see a lot from snorkeling around your bungalow.
In June/July in can be quite windy so it can be noisy in the bungalow.
The 2 swimming pools are not huge but the beach and lagoon more than make up for it in terms of swimming.

Overall I do recommend this place and Bora Bora is an amazing place to visit.

The Arrival:

We arrived with the hotel's boat coming the main shore (which is free). We were welcomed with fresh juices and smiles by the lady in charge of our check-in, "Havai". After giving us a tour of the place, she took us to our villa where our Luggages were already waiting for us!

The Villa:

An amazing two bed-rooms+living room, embracing the local style while reminaing modern and trendy. This villa was featuring a tanning deck and a private infinity pool facing the lagoon!
Nothing to say about it: JUST PERFECT!!!!

The pools:

There is two small pools in the hotel, but who needs a pool when you have such an amzing lagoon to swim in?

The service:

During our entire stay the staff knew our first names and created a very friendly ambiance. The service was fast, friendly, anticipating our needs, and always smiling!

The Activities:

Free windsurfing, snorkling, kayaking, Ping Pong, etc, at the beach... Free rides to the main island witht the hotel shutle where we have enjoyed a night of Heiva dances. Free internet access at the business center.

The restaurant:

The service was perfect and the food outstanding. We had a very romantic dinner seating by the water where we have also enjoyed a fantastic show of traditional dances.

The Buffet:

A litle bit overpriced but excellent, we've tried the french buffet and were delighted by the selection of deserts which was tasty and amazingly diversified! Again the seating was perfect, right by the water.

The Turtles:

This is a unique feature! You can enjoy a swim with the turtles whenever you like. There is a center within the hotel that takes care of armed or young turtles and put them back in shape before releasing them in the ocean. You can actually witness the feeding every morning... quite an experience.

The wedding:

We got married again the tahitian way inside the hotel's chapel which is built over the water. This was the experience of a lifetime. The ceremony was in tahitian and we have enjoyed a wonderfull moment in this fantastic surrounding.

Only one thing to say: Many thanks to the team of the Meridien Bora Bora, you've made our stay unforgettable!

Jeremy

Most people go to a place like this knowing that the price is ridiculous but HEY for once in your life....why not ?
But at these rates ($ 1100/night in our case) everything should be perfect....and well it isn't.
First they charge you for the commute between the airport and the hotel which is crazy since there is no other way to get there but with their boat.
Check in was extremely slow - over an hour before we saw our room.
The guy showing us around showed us hardly anything - we had to find out ourselves.
We took an over the water bungalow with a glass floor for two reasons : To swim from your bungalow and to see the wildlife right there from your room.
This area of he lagoon has strong currents so we couldn't swim from our bungalow....ever....and because of the curents we saw zero fish....what a letdown.
We asked about maybe attending some typical local dances. The hotel said : there aren't any. Maybe on the main island I suggested. No the lady at the service desk said. Well what about in other hotels ? No, nothing was the answer. Now I know that for a fact to be a lie. Anything to keep you stuck on their island....
The buffet in the hotel was OK but not what you would expect in a place like this and both in choice and quality not up to standards for this kind of resort.
The swimming pools are tiny - I mean miniscule - what were they thinking ????
Of course you need to pay for wifi - while the local provider has a specific package for hotels with unlimited use - so its just a rip off.
After two nights in this hotel we moved to a small place on the main island with free pick up, free wifi and great service. What's amazing is that for the price we paid to stay 2 nights in Le Meridien we could have stayed 40 - yes 40 nights in this guesthouse.
Like I said in the beginning....just not worth it

This hotel is perfect in so many ways. Great location! ROMANTIC! The people who work there are TERRIFIC. Only complaint is the buffet is absurdly expensive and not that great. At the time, $85 per person! And you kind of don't have a lot of options since you're there at the resort.

I highly recommend the snorkel trip! We weren't sure what to expect and it was INCREDIBLE!

Having the turtle lagoon there is wonderful!
