The resort is getting a bit tired but is soon to be refurbished. Great place to stay and the staff were very friendly & helpful. Stayed over Christmas so had a fantastic Christmas dinner and entertainment. Very nice bar/ pool area for relaxing or watching the sunset. We came by boat from the airport well worth it to travel right up the turquoise lagoon and see the mountains and resorts. We stayed in a Lagoon Bungalow which was clean and tidy although in need of an update. The area is great with a couple of small shops just down the road and other restaurants close by.

You get what you pay for... so if you lower your expectation... well, this place is good value...

We got a lagoon bungalow that has great view to the private island. The room however is very dated and requires serious renovation... The extra rollaway bed they supplied for my child looked like a piece of junk from the dump site.. (i'm serious...)

Water around bungalow is shallow and easy for snorkelling, during our last few days a group of eagle rays (up to 11) came by often playing around our bungalow which is amazing...

The staff at restaurant and activity desk was friendly and helpful. The service sometimes was slow and inconsistent... The food was ok, and pricy...

Location is great, close to a store where you can get drinks, groceries with good price, a boat rental site called La plage and car rental (Avis), so if you like explore the island and lagoon yourself it would be very convenient.

Room tip: avoid bungalow close to the restaurant (no privacy...)

Bora Bora is great. But the service at this hotel is only so so although the location is great and our over-water bungalow has a great view to the private isle. The dinner is not very fresh and not very tasting.

Room tip: we had room 51 with great view.

We have been very lucky with our French Polynesian trip with regards to our hotel as we had the best room/bungalow but the last night at Tahiti. I think it's because we booked them through a travel agent in Sydney, Hideaway Holidays, and obviously, the hotels want to have a long term business with travel agents. I think if we had booked this ourselves through booking dot com, we wouldn't have been given the best bungalows.

We were assigned bungalow #63 which is the best bungalow of the resort as it is the last bungalow towards the sea and has full privacy. Most other bungalows appear to look into the main resort restaurant/pool to close to their neighbours. We were indeed very lucky and grateful that we had the best bungalow.

Room Size: 5/5
Great size and spacious bungalow, enough for our needs.

Room Condition: 2/5
We noticed that some bungalows have lights shining down from the glass floor so that you can see some sea life at night but ours must have been broken. My partner swam to the bottom of our bungalow and saw a light fitting but it doesn't lit up when we turned every single switch on, in the room.

The room is also due for a refurbishment. The red vanity bench is very out of date, the joinery's timber laminate is peeling off at the corners and the sliding doors into the bathroom have two missing door handles from the inside.

I'm also hoping that they do undertake annual structural assessment of the bungalows as there are quite a lot of cracks on the columns supporting the bungalow below.

Housekeeping: 2/5
On the first day, we forgot to put our towels on the floor to have them changed to new fresh ones. It was very evident that the towels were dirty but they just hung them back up. I know it's their policy to re-use the towels if we didn't put them on the floor but I think common sense would have it that if the towels are evidently dirty, they should change it. We called reception to deliver a set of fresh towels and had to call twice to have them delivered after several hours.

On the first evening, they delivered macarons and two bottles of water and we thought this would be the daily practice, especially for the water as we did get two new bottles of water every evening at Sofitel Mo'orea. Unfortunately, this only happened on the first night and we had to go to the local supermarket to buy our water.

On our last day, we finally remembered to leave all our towels on the floor but they didn't provide a complete set of new towels, missing a face towel and fresh floor mat.

So, it has been really inconsistent with regards to their house keeping.

Maintenance: 1/5
We didn't avail this service during our stay but on our last day, at 8.40AM, the maintenace guy was banging our balcony sliding doors several times, very loudly and when we came out, he was asking if we had asked for maintenance, which we obviously didn't. Considering the point on the light bulb not working under the glass floor and various maintenance issues in the dilapidating room, obviously, the maintenance at this place hasn't been up to scratch.

Food: 2/5
It was compulsory as part of our booking to partake in their new year's eve dinner which costed $350 per person, which is a total rip off, unless of course if you are a big eater of crab legs and oysters - which are probably the most expensive animals being served at the buffet. They tasted very fresh but I did have diarrheao that evening and three times the next day.

Bar food is average; pizza terrible, fries are pretty good - the best we have had at French Polynesia.

We also had a la carte one evening at the Latitude restaurant - menu range isn't great but the fish dishes were ok.

So, in general, food is slightly better than Sofitel Mo'orea but not their breakfast range.

Concierge: 4/5
Apart from having to wait for quite a while for an angry French family to finish their query, we organised a Twizy hire from Avis via the concierge that wen smoothly.

Arrival Service: 4/5
Wait time for check in is acceptable and we had a very courteous Taiwanese intern girl who greeted us, took photos for us and showed us our bungalow.

The only down point is every hotel at the airport greeted their guests with chilled bottle of water but Sofitel was the only one which didn't have any water for their guests!

Cleanliness: 3/5
We would have preferred to not share our room with geckos although we note that there is a leaflet in the room saying geckos only stay in clean environment but if we are paying over $1K per night for a room, we would prefer not to have to scoop up gecko poos from our suitcases everyday.

Pool Facility: 3/5
The most annoying is when they ran out of towels! I don't understand why resorts just don't stock enough pool towels for every guest!

Overall: 2.9/5

We selected this property since we wanted an over-water bungalow and this price was mid-range of all resorts offering that option. We had a great time in our room snorkeling and playing in the water. I fed the fish bread from the buffet and was able to get fantastic pictures and great memories. We went in off season so it was cloudy and rained a little but we had one spectacular sunny day and it was amazing.
We are drinkers so we made several visits to the bar but never really had a great time. Drinks were just okay and service just okay. We walked the 2-3 blocks to the convenience store and stocked our room with beer, soda and juice and made our own drinks most of the time. We paid additional for breakfast/dinner provided. It was all just okay. Service was lacking and we had to fend for ourselves most of the time. I would stay here again though - I had lower expectations due to price point and loved the over water bungalow.
