This was to be the highlight of our trip to Alaska, however it was a low light I am sorry to say. Our musher did not seem interested in the people at all, and only provided one word answers. Having said that after our ride he was much more communicative. The dogs were just gorgeous and we had a lovely lunch provides by the mushers wife.

This is a great tour to learn and experience what dog sledding is like. The owner of the Kennel, Jerry Sousa and wife picked us up in Talkeetna, Alaska. We travel back to the kennel in two vans. We were with about 16 people total at the kennel. As soon as we got out of the vans the dogs began barking and were so excited to see us. We were then escorted into a small building to explain a lot about the dogs. Jerry a dog musher (racer) in the famous Alaska Iditarod, talked about the difference from Alaska Husky and Siberian Husky, raising the dogs, racing the dogs and many other interesting facts. After explaining he divided us up into three groups to be pulled by a team of 12 dogs. There were about 50 dogs each dog barking to be selected to pull an ATV. These dogs are chained to their dog house because they all wanted to go. Each tour Jerry uses a different group of dogs some older and younger ones combined. After the 12 dogs are selected, the other dogs just howl until the ATV leaves. The course for the dogs is about 5 miles and the three groups switched off during the run. Just a great experience and to see how much these dogs love to run. Afterwards we were allowed to pet the dogs and then had an opportunity to pet and hold some of the Husky Pups. These dogs are well cared for by the kennel. Just a great experience!

Had a great visit. Our musher /owner runs the Iditarod every year and knows his stuff had a great ride. He talks about the dogs and we got to play with some puppies. Fun and informative.

We had such a good time on this tour. Though some may be put off by the way these dogs have to be chained up between runs, it is clear that they are well cared for and that they love to run. Yes, the owners are not exactly effusive during their presentation, but their subdued manner was actually kind of entertaining in itself. Eight dogs were hooked up to an ATV (and were clearly very excited to be part of this) and our group then sat down to be taken for a run. I was one of the lucky ones to stand in the back and hold on to the roll bar. Yeah, it seemed a little dangerous, but we had a GREAT time!!! Very exhiliarating! After, we were allowed to pet the dogs (they loved the love we gave them) and then to hold the puppies who were recently born. Our hearts completely melted!
