My family originally booked a superior and a deluxe requesting them next door to one another. When we arrived on the train from Hanoi at 6am we caught a mini bus to Sapa. The manager called me to ask if I needed a lift into Sapa very kind, but we were already on our way. Upon arrival we were given ginger and honey tea, as we were all feeling rather car sick from the journey.
They arranged for us to have one room at 8am, this was fantastic considering we'd had little sleep on the night train. It gave my family a chance to shower and have a nap, our second room was available at 11am. We were given the family room and a deluxe instead of the superior and deluxe as they were the only available rooms side by side.
The owner was lovely and made sure we had firewood for when we returned at the end of the day, Sapa is quite cold during December/January so this was appreciated. The firewood burns very quickly though so on the next night I requested extra firewood, which was provided. I asked for the same the next day and again this was fine with the owner. He even brought in heaters for us as we'll as electric blankets! Awesome after a hard cold day of trekking.
We found this a very positive experience and I would recommend to stay here, I imagine it would be spectacular during the summer months as the rooms are quite high, so expect some stairs to your room. Breakfast was free daily but it was quite light on, with a list to choose from. My husband wanted a juice instead of coffee and was told this would be extra, which was strange considering he had only ordered a baguette with butter and nothing else, but this was the only negative thing that happened.

Room here was OK. Very cold outside of bed with only a single heater(small) and there was lots of problems with power outages which deemed both the heater and electric blankets useless. View may have been nice, although our stay was hindered by very thick fog(be warned of Sapa in winter). We requested a double during booking, but instead had two singles pushed together. Staff helpful, especially with organizing hikes and trip back to the train station.

Room tip: Spend more than the budget room as US $24

All the good things people have said about this hotel are true. Rooms are comfortable and clean with a fireplace and amazing views of the valley when the clouds cooperate. Breakfast is decent and the staff sufficiently friendly to make the stay comfortable.

One thing to note is that our room didn't have a heater and the fireplace didn't do much to warm the room. Fortunately, the beds do have an electric blanket so you'll still be cozy at night.

Room tip: All rooms seem to have views. Ask for a room further up for a less obstructed view at the cost of more stairs to climb.

Ditto what everyone else loves about this cozy place: friendly staff, good service, nice lodge-like rooms with lots of wood and fireplace, great views (if weather is clear), excellent wifi, and breakfast with choices (several egg options, pancakes, or muesli).

We had a nice room up high with a view (on the second day when the fog cleared), equipped with a computer, tv, hot water pot with free tea, fireplace, laundry service, hot water in shower, and electric blanket.

Location is on Fansipan Street - one of the last hotels on hike down to Cat Cat Village. Plenty of restaurants and "Northface" stores around. Very close to market, which is also the shortcut to the main street of Cau May with lots of restaurants and bars. Nothing is far in Sapa so everywhere is a good location really.

We enjoyed our stay and would book at Cat Cat again.

This is not the hotel's fault but we had a 9:15 am train back to Hanoi. The hotel was gracious enough to have one of the minivans pick us up at 7:30 am, which we thought would be plenty of time to get to our train in Lao Cai (takes ~1 hour); except that we just idled in front of the church waiting for more passengers, then took a trip around Sapa looking for more passengers, and after much complaining, finally left Sapa at 8:20 am! We almost missed our train. We let the hotel know about the transportation problem and they were very apologetic, but since they can't guarantee the service, they will probably get out of the business of booking return trips. It's easy enough to walk to the church and find a minivan for $2.50 to Lao Cai on your own - just be sure to give yourself plenty of time and that they know you have a train to catch!

We really liked this nice and friendly hotel. We had a big room on the upper side (had to "climb" so many steps!), with a big bed and a clean bathroom (with the shower in the middle, as in many other places, but was ok). We has great views and even a computer in the room. They also offer laundry service and the staff was very very helpful. They organised our transport from/to Lao Cai and gave us information enough to organize our trip and treks. Breakfast was very good and in general the atmosphere of this hotel was fantastic. We would stay there again!
