Good-
Nice decor. Private and exclusive. Surrounded by trees, river, birds and small animals. Love the swimming pools. There are 2 pools. One facing the paddy field. Stuffs are friendly and attentive.
Bed is comfy, good choice of TV programs. Lovely bath tub and shower by the nature and under the stars.

Bad-
the bath area is kind of dark at night. Not sheltered if it rains and u have to take shower or bath under rain. Mosquitos are around but this is what we couldn't avoid.
Need to take good care of all detail as some corner of the room are not well taken care of. The mosquito net on bed is rather not very comfy as it always drop too near you when u sleep.
When we were there, no other guests staying in. The place is rather too quiet and the restaurant only operates when u pre order your food. It lacks of some lively vibe especially at night.
Some chairs and day bed at the pool area was not in good shape.
The location is quite at from anything.

Overall was a good stay. Hope it gets better if the management could look into details.

We love this hotel. It is small and inviting and so lovely. Our room is a cabin with a bedroom and large bathroom. When we open the door, we see a “mosquito netting” structure above our bed, which is tied in a manner to make it look like a bedchamber fit for royalty. So lovely. The dark wooden furniture is very nice and goes well with the high cathedral open-beamed ceiling. The chifforobe holds the robes, slippers, hair dryer, and safe, and of course space to hang clothes. There is a small desk. One problem is that the room is fairly dark despite having desk lamps, bedside lamps, and some overhead lighting. There are several floor to ceiling windows which open, and which would provide more light during the day, but for privacy we chose not to open them. One other problem, over which they may or may not have control, is that the wifi was not working anywhere on the property. The manager says it is a problem with the service provider, so I hope this has been resolved by now. The room is well-air-conditioned. The bathroom is unusual for us, as it is open to the sky as well as open to the room. It is not air-conditioned, but that is not a problem. There are high concrete walls with plants growing on them, a modern bathtub, shower, toilet, and sink. The shower has a hand-held spout as well as an overhead rain shower. I suppose, if it rains, one could use the rainwater for the shower. The floor throughout the cabin is concrete, and in the bathroom in the shower area and around the toilet consists of smooth, rounded rocks, perhaps 3 to 4 inches in diameter, which water runs through without the need for a visible drain. And the sink is almost a flat surface but with a slight indentation for the “bowl” area and a gash for a drain. It works well. While these are not the usual amenities, we found them delightful and in keeping with the ambience of Bali.

The hotel is located in a populated area, but then most of what we’ve seen so far in this area of Bali is quite populated. Despite this, on the back side of the resort, there is a lovely rice field. The resort is about 11 or 12 miles from the airport, and as we rode that distance coming to the hotel, the traffic changed from very congested near the airport to much calmer near the hotel. Our driver turned into what looked like an alley, leading to a small reception area. We arrived at night, so we were unable to see what the grounds looked like until morning, but they are very relaxing and inviting. There are 2 very clean swimming pools, an open air dining area, seating in beds/lounges cabanas, ponds, and a “river”. If we were not so eager to see the island, it would be easy so spend days here just relaxing.

The staff here is incredibly helpful and friendly. We have met the manager Dewa, the cook Roby, and others who work here including Hendra who drove us from the airport, Putu whom we had spoken to on the phone before leaving home, and Bagee who seems to do maintenance. They all seem to be cross-trained to provide whatever service is needed. When we arrived, we were the only guests here, so we may have received more attention than usual. By the third night there were several other guests. The hotel has a car and driver available for traveling around the island, purchasable for either 4 or 8 hours at a reasonable price, and they provided that for us for the 2 days of sightseeing we had.

Breakfast was included in the price. Each evening they presented a menu of 2 options as well as beverage options, and maybe we could have asked for more. Our eggs benedict on the first morning were excellent and served with an avocado salad. There was a “dressing” on the side which seemed to be oil and vinegar infused with mint leaves. Very tasty. The restaurant also is open for other meals and we chose to have our dinner here on 2 nights. Again we had to place our order earlier in the day, but it was so convenient to eat here after long days of sightseeing. Roby is an excellent chef who certainly knows how to make divine sauces with the freshest of ingredients. The prawns on the menu were listed as having curry, and I requested that mine be made not spicy. The sauce he made was perfect, and so tasty. It did have a mild “kick” but it was just what I wanted. The sides were spinach crackers, which were like nothing I had ever eaten before, but wonderful, along with zucchini. The prawns were huge. My husband chose the Thai beef salad and also noted its excellence. They also make a darned good smoothie and the gelato. They do have a liquor and wine menu as well.

Ah, one important thing: The bed was very comfortable.

I highly recommend the Kalapa.

My first review! My partner and I vacation often in Bali to escape Jakarta and wanted to try something new this time. We stayed here during early December and had a very quiet and peaceful stay. The unique decor and design of the villas was refreshing and even got us thinking about building something similar for ourselves! Christina, the director, took some time to show us other villas and now we want to try them all. Highly recommended for couples looking for a calm vacation or those who have an appreciation for architecture.
