We stayed at the Samudra for 5 nights on a B&B basis.
Initially we were delighted. The room was spacious and (on the face of it) clean, cool, comfortable and with a great view from the balcony of the hotel grounds and beach beyond.
However after visiting other places including some lovely Homestays on our tour of Kerala we found this place quite 'soulless'. The hotel is also need of quite a bit of maintenance. There were also quite a number of filthy mattresses left dotted about the corridors.
The hotel has a 'beer parlour' but this was a sad squalid room which we chose not to use.
Unfortunately we lost the key to our room on day 1. We were charged a hefty Rs 1500 for a replacement. I asked why the charge for a key was so high and was told that this was 'Hotel policy' since the lock would have to be changed. Fair enough I thought but the trouble was that the lock was never changed during our stay. (I doubt that it ever will be) this left our room unsecure for most of our stay. Despite my polite protests nothing was done and no money was refunded for the 'lock change'.
I should also mention the furry rodent a saw running down the wall on our final morning. This was no squirrel!
I smell a rat!
Food (breakfast) was quite good but little variety day to day. For other meals we used the nearby restaurants which were excellent.
