I recently stayed three nights at this hostel and found it to be the best budget accommodation I have stayed in in Alaska to date. It is run differently to a conventional hostel in that it is closed between 9am and 5pm, and all guests must leave during the day. Each guest is given a chore to do (eg I cleaned bathrooms during my stay) but the result is that the hostel is exceptionally clean. However this was a small cost when the daily rate is $12-$15.“
Sean and James who run the hostel have other lives, but that did not prevent them from providing excellent support to all the guests with advice on attractions and transport etc.
I also appreciated the opportunity to use a whiteboard to check if anyone was going to a ferry and wished to share a taxi. I used this option to find three other guests who wanted to go to the AMH ferry and it reduced the cost of the taxi fare considerably.
I was in a small room - a dorm with 3 bunk beds, but it was not a great problem as there was a lovely sitting area, dining room and kitchen and one was out of the hostel for most of the day anyway. I would return here anytime.More
