The Nautilis Resort Restaurant was amazing. I had booked the Private Dinner Room months in advance and had been corresponding with Josh Woodward (possibly the Food and Beverage Manager), who had made the experience stress-free even before we got there. Every question was answered as promptly as possible.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances most of our dinner party couldn't make it to the allocated dinner date/time but the staff at the Resort were very kind and flexible and had been amazing at helping us out with that problem. Such amazing customer service that we are very grateful for!!

The Private Dinner room is absolutely beautiful and made the night even more special. Everything from the gorgeous table setting to the use of the sound system all made the night better than imagined. The waiters and waitresses were all very patient and friendly. We could not have asked for more of a pleasant experience with the Restaurant (hence the 5 stars).

As for the food, every single person from the dinner party were blown away with the quality of the food. The Ika Mata was fantastic! It was creamy, not too tangy and tasted amazing. As a big fan of Kumara (Sweet Potato), I thought that the Kumara Straw Fries were a very nice touch.

For mains I had ordered the Char Grilled Beef Fillet Mignon and it exceeded expectations. It was delicious, cooked to perfection and the mushrooms topped it off. It even came with a selection of delicious sauces.

Dessert was excellent. It had been the first time I had tried a Crème Brûlée and it was a perfect way to finish such a great dinner.

Overall we enjoyed our experience with the food and even the amazing staff members and will be returning here as soon as possible :)

We stayed for 6 nights in November and really enjoyed our stay. The room was nice and spacious, clean and even received a bottle of champagne at checkin and fudge nightly for turn down service.
The restaurant was good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Matt was also extremely helpful with places to go and things to do, which was an added bonus! We would definitely come back if ever in the Cook Islands again.

We’ve had mixed experiences at this restaurant in past years, but after this year's two visits I doubt that we’ll bother again unless we can be assured of big changes.

The first visit this time was average and rated a 3.

Last year my husband really enjoyed a Crustacean Bisque as described in my review at that time. It was described somewhat differently this time from memory as being ‘local’ crab and tofu. But we both decided to order it to start. What a disappointment! I doubt that the crab was local, or even crab at all. But the majority of the bisque was tofu. We didn’t enjoy it at all.

Our main course choice was better. We ordered the Prawn Risotto. The risotto had been competently cooked and had the perfect creamy consistency that is expected. It was somewhat lacking in prawns. However, we enjoyed it.

The service was fine although the Filipina waitress was rather intrusive in her questioning of us. But no doubt she was just trying to be friendly and show interest in her customers.

But we did notice that the restaurant was nearly empty for almost the whole time we were there – possibility a sign of the effect the Muri night markets are having on local restaurants.

The second visit was a totally different story. As before, we booked an early table for 6 pm. Arriving about 10 minutes early, we were told happy hour prices still applied so we ordered a glass of wine each while looking at the menu. We decided against entrees but ordered the eye fillet for our main courses.

The waitress came back a few minutes later. She said that the chef was still preparing food for a wedding function and would not start to prepare our food until after 6.30. Was that OK? We said no, it wasn’t and we would go somewhere else. She rushed off to talk to the chef – came back and said it was OK it would be prepared immediately.

We relaxed with our wine until it got to 6.30. We asked the waitress where our food was. It was difficult to attract her attention as she was trying to ignore us. She came back and said it would be another 20 minutes or so. We got up to leave. At the desk a male who we had not seen before came up and said there would be no charge for our wine. Big deal as it was supposed to be half price anyway.

We had quite obviously been lied to. If we had been told the truth in the first place we would have been able to leave and go somewhere else for a meal. A free glass of wine was no compensation when we had planned a pleasant evening with good food.

Something need to be done about this restaurant. If they had a big wedding party to cater for they should never have accepted our booking for 6 pm. And, when we were first there, they should have been upfront about the delay rather than lying and depending on the fact that we would put up with the wait.

This second experience rates only a 1 – frankly we wish it could be a zero. We could not recommend the restaurant to others. However, we would suggest that if anyone does make a booking they make very sure that there won’t be any undue delays due to party bookings or for any other reason.

We are regular visitors to Raro but I doubt we will consider eating here again unless there are many changes at the resort, not just at the restaurant.

The location is amazing and the food delicious. Service was great. And the toliets are really cool- sounds weird but they really are

The Polynesian Raw fish is out of this world!!! Marinated in tequila you can't go wrong. New chef is doing a great job and the service was fantastic. Highly recommended.
