Visualize thatched roof bungalows over looking a shimmering tropical lagoon.
This is the Tamanu Beach resort. One of the best locations on Aitutaki. 5 stars.

The Tamanu Beach staff, Nick, the manager, and Masi, the head chef.
My kind of hoteliers. 5 stars again.

The food at the Tamanu and also Rarotonga soooooo good. Not a single issue in the 11 days we spent in the Cook Islands. ( we have more than one ongoing digestive issue when we are in the US.) Cook Island food. 5 stars again.

Island night at the Tamanu. Don’t miss it.

And then there is Aitutaki lagoon. Google the descriptions, photos on the internet. That won’t do it justice. See it in person. The Vaca lagoon cruise is a very nice, larger craft, more people, livelier. Beautiful cruise. I really liked the Aitutaki Adventures lagoon cruise. Smaller craft, fewer people aboard, better snorkeling, best picnic lunch ever.

One Foot Island. The quintessential South Pacific island. Bring 2 cameras. It is one photo op you do not want to miss.

Room Tip: Bungalow overlooking the lagoon, best.

Aitutaki is absolute paradise and Tamanu Beach is situated on the most beautiful lagoon I've ever seen. The water is warm and crystal clear and we used the free snorkels, stand up paddle boards and kayaks every day. The one bedroom villas are a really decent size, we stayed in 208 and it was really quiet. The shutters block out the sun, so we had a few luxurious sleep ins. The front deck is perfect for lazing about, you can see the lagoon and enjoy watching the chickens scratching around. The resort staff were lovely and organised a scooter for us and two tours, Vaka and black pearl fishing. The restaurant cooked our catch up for us to eat for dinner. The restaurant food was incredible! Very high quality fish and ingredients. Prices are on par with Rarotonga and Australia, which is surprising considering Aitutaki is in the middle of nowhere. The villa interior is dated, as noted in other reviews, however very clean and comfortable and we think great value for money! If you're going to the cook islands, you need to stay on Aitutaki and if you are looking for relaxed and comfortable accommodation, where you can switch off and enjoy the spectacular lagoon, Tamanu Beach is perfect.
The location is perfect. It's halfway between the airport/ootu beach, and the town centre, making it easy to scoot around the island when we wanted. The location is also on one of the most beautiful parts of the lagoon, there's lots of coral, a giant clam and oodles of fish. The other side of the island has only sand, which is nice for swimming, but we loved the Coral and having that at your doorstep was the best. Our stay was for 6 nights of our honeymoon and we will definitely stay again next time we visit Aitutaki.

Spacious, modern beach villas situated on the beautiful lagoon of aitutaki. Large deck area, plus very roomy bathroom and shower creating luxury. Bedroom and living room again very spacious and comfortable particularly after having stayed in smaller bungalows (some space is nice!) Lacking however in cooking facilities which was a let down since the restaurant had no vegan options and struggled every single time I asked for a vegetarian option less the dairy etc. Also leaves little option to save money since you have to eat at the restaurant or somewhere else as there is only a fridge and a jug in the room - a toaster or microwave or small electric stove as found in smaller bungalows would make the price completely worth it. Found room staff a lot more approachable and friendly than restaurant staff in general however as a customer needing some meal adjustments completely understand I can be a hassle lol. Breakfast options are varied. General manager very kind and personable. Availability of paddle boards and kayaks much appreciated. Beautiful snorkelling right in the lagoon at tamanu, however if you are the type who prefers to lay out on the beach then this spot is perfect for just that - White sand and turquoise lagoon framed by luscious greenery - incredible. Island night a hoot and very impressive work by the local dancers and fire twirlers, however at $130 per person for dinner and a show it is difficult to justify when the options are meat meat and meat and you love animals (especially the kitty cats who laze around and cute little baby chooks chasing their mum round the property!).

Kia Orana Rhianna,

Thanks so much for the review. There is always room for improvement and we appreciate the feedback.

We are working on new menus with 'vegan' & vegetarian options. This is still a concept restaurant staff in Aitutaki are getting to grips with. The educational process is happening but will take a little more time to build confidence to deliver "off the menu" options.

We have removed kitchens from all bungalows now as we found fewer & fewer guests were making use of these.

Just a correction for the price of the Island Night - it is $130 per couple ($65pp) and there are almost 20 different dishes to sample on the night including various salads & desserts.

Thanks again for your review and I hope someday in the near future you will return.
Kia Manuia,
Nick

While we were not staying here while in beautiful Aitutaki we visited the restaurant for dinner, our order was lost and when it finally did arrive was inedible and nothing like what was described on menu.

Kia Orana Lisa,

On behalf of our small team at Tamanu Beach Resort, I apologise for the disappointing experience you had at our Beach-side restaurant.

We are working hard to avoid & minimise these errors.

We stayed at this fabulous hotel for our honeymoon! We can't recommend this place enough! Our beach bungalow was amazing with our own private verandah where we could watch the sunsets each evening with a glass of wine. Nick the manager is the perfect host and always greeted us by name. The girls in the dinning room always smiling and very helpful and you can see they love their job! The food is wonderful! Yummy breakfast every morning and we choose to eat dinner here every night except one. You can also have lunch but we we're always out and about at lunch time! Great snorkeling just metres from our bungalow and snorkeling gear and beach towels provided! They even provide umbrellas if you need one although when it rained it was for only five minutes! We didn't want to leave this paradise
