Hotel Grano de Oro surpassed our expectations!! We were there for the weekend at the end of our Central American trip and had an amazing stay. Every single person we interacted with at the front desk was first class. I have never encountered a hotel staff so helpful. We needed help with laundry, dinner reservations, and a request for pizza delivery on our last night (because we were exhausted!). The hotel itself was just gorgeous and we had a beautiful room. Dinner at the hotel is a must as well!! Delicious food and impeccable service. We will definitely be back when we're in San Jose!!!

Hotel Grano de Oro is an amazing find in the heart of San Jose. It is a refurbished Victorian mansion that offers excellent accommodation, personalised service and beautiful gardens and terraces to relax in. Old world charm with all the modern conveniences. We did try the restaurant - had excellent breakfasts there but the dinner menu was a bit too "foo-foo" for our taste and we ate the reaining dinners out.

Wooden surfaces and Victorian details throughout are superbly maintained and provided a comfortable, intimate setting for our brief passage from a resort. The welcome is friendly, the lobby coffee in the morning very useful. No need to venture out into the spring deluge - a delicious meal is available in the hotel restaurant. We stayed in rooms 8 (a little larger, with views onto a nondescript street) and 20 (small, but facing a garden courtyard and perfectly comfortable).

Room Tip: A garden room may be smaller but quieter and perfectly adequate.

My wife and I come to Costa Rica every year for the last 10 years. We stay in a neighborhood in Playa Bejuco, south of Jaco, with friends from the states. One couple lives there year round. We never spend any time in San Jose. It's always fly in, go to Bejuco, stay, fly home. We didn't want to be rushed on the day of our flight so we decided to try out Hotel Grano de Oro. I'm so glad we did! The hotel and staff are 5 Star. What a warm welcome! The restaurant and bar are amazing as well. What a wonderful stay in a beautiful city! I'll stay nowhere else while visiting San Jose in the future.
