We stayed here in the beginning of March with our 2 children (20 months and 3 &1/2) and our good friends with their 2 year old. We had such an amazing time and the house was absolutely perfect for all ages. There was plenty of room for 4 adults and 3 little girls. The master bedroom was phenomenal, the master bath was perfect! We definitely will be returning to this house.
We have to thank Mike and Barb from the bottom of our hearts for saving our first family vacation. Another property we had rented was falsely advertised and we had to leave to salvage the rest of our vacation and keep our kids safe. When we spoke to Mike and Barb they were quick to accommodate us and alter their own vacation so that we could stay at the Whale House and relax and enjoy the remainder of our vacation. Raoul met us and took us to the house and took care of anything we needed or desired.
The house itself is beyond amazing! There is the beautiful beach which is shallow for the little ones, tide pools to explore, gorgeous shores to walk and look for shells and jaw dropping scenery where jungle meets ocean. The jungle paths on the property are fun to walk and see the wildlife, the kids loved seeing the monkeys and feeding them. We saw lizards, Macaws, Toucans, Howler Monkeys, Titi monkeys, Pelicans, Butterflies, Hawks, and various other animals on the property. There also is plenty of fruit trees, flowers and botanicals that we loved exploring and even picked some ginger and oranges to cook with one night. There was so much to do on site that we did not leave for any other excursions.
We did travel to Puerto Jimenez for groceries which is very close by and for dinner at a great Seafood place by the ocean. The town had everything you could need and Raoul was happy to show us around. Raoul was a top notch concierge who made us feel at home and was simply amazing. He even delivered us pizza one night and it was hands down the best thin crust pizza we have ever had.
We travelled here all the way from Ottawa (our Friends Toronto) Canada. it was worth the trek. We wanted to drive from San Jose and see the scenery which was beautiful but for those not as adventurous you can fly Sansa from San Jose airport right into Puerto Jimenez. We felt completely safe here and driving the 6 & 1/2 hours back to San Jose was smooth driving along the new paved highway that runs along the coast.
We wish we had booked our entire 2 week stay here!
Thank you Mike and Barb

We stayed here for a week and loved it. The area surrounding the home is non-touristy, natural, serene, and private, situated amidst the tropical forest and along the shoreline. The home is newly renovated, tastefully decorated, secure, and very comfortable for a family to spread out, hang out, and enjoy. The pool and huge patio set up is perfect for family barbecues and hanging out day or night. We felt so pampered having the concierge available as our shopper, driver, cook, tour guide, and with the additional housekeeper and chef, we went home with clean laundry neatly folded! Leading up to the trip, Mike and Barb were a wonderful resource for us, so accommodating and informative, going the extra mile to help us with flights, answer all our questions. They made sure we had what we needed upon arrival, offering their help and guidance along the way. They really helped make us feel at home. During your stay, consider the following activities: going on the boat excursion to Golfo Dulce; having the at home massage/spa (have you ever had a massage on your own private balcony while listening to birds and monkeys and frogs?); going for the most delicious pizza -- right in town; going horseback riding through town and to the ocean; going zip lining through the tropical forest; drinking coconut water -- straight from the coconut (hello, organic!); sitting on the balcony with your coffee and binoculars, watching birds and monkeys in their natural habitat; having Jennie and Tomas prepare an authentic "tico-style' dinner. Overall, we had an awesome and memorable family vacation at this beautiful home surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of tropical forest and authentic Costa Rican culture. Thank you, Mike, Barb, Tomas and Jennie!
