We recently visited Finca Exotica from the US. We flew into San Jose and drove to the Osa Peninsula and our experience was more than we could have hoped for! The views are absolutely incredible, as well as, the wildlife. We stayed in the mango cabin and it was really peaceful, serene and it was amazing waking up to the sunshine and sound of waves and birds in the morning. All of the staff was wonderful. They were extremely kind and helpful. Jose was great! He checked us in and out and carried our bags all the way to our rooms (which was quite the trek). We paid to go on the day hike with Laura and she was very knowledgeable and helped us spot and educate us on different plants and animals along the way. We paid to have our meals included and every meal we had was home cooked and to die for! It was served family style, so all of the other people staying at Finca ate together. It was amazing to be able to eat dinner and chat with other people from all over the world! I cannot say enough positive things about this place! We will definitely be coming back and sending our friends to Finca Exotica!!

Finca Exotica is a true paradise in every sense. Located a stones throw from Carate beach. The surroundings are a lush yet Jurassic-looking tropical rainforest that meets the pristine vast sandy beaches. You can gently swing in a hammock or lie in the black volcanic sand and only see one other person all day. The lodge is sound-tracked by the powerful crashing waves of the Pacific and if you wake up early you can sometimes see whales passing. If you’re more of a late riser, don’t worry the local Mantled Howler Monkies will make sure they get you up. As an everyday standard you will see passing Scarlet Macaws on their way to the almond trees or a troop of multi generational Squirrel monkies on the hunt for fresh fruit.
The lodges has been designed by the one of the incredible hosts and is beautifully crafted, economically and esthetically sensitive to it’s surroundings. The lodge is by far the most beautiful in Carate. From Tiki huts set within the tropical gardens to luxury cabins, there is an option for all. We stayed in the hut and it might be the most financially economical option but it was perfect. Like sleeping in the middle of the jungle but from a safe and comfortable distance.
The heart of the community is the restaurant, which serves freshly made breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything from scratch, even the juice, the staff will look after any dietary requirement and using local produce serve exquisite food. Dinner is an occasion when all the residents get together and share stories about what they discovered that day and share insider recommendations. The price is modest and the quality impeccable. Gay friendly.
The jewel of the area and reason we traveled to the Osa Peninisula is the Corcavardo National Park. Finca can arrange day hikes or for a more lengthy stay you can spend a couple nights in the Serina Ranger Lodge. Longer stays must be arranged in advance and at least a month’s notice. You cannot enter the park without a guide but Finca can advise on a Tour Company. Never have we been somewhere where the wildlife is so abundant. It was a dream come true and our guide Steven Chacon, Osa Green Travel, was incredibly knowledgeable making the three-day hike so special. There are many guides to pick from but if you want something outstanding where you leave with a new knowledge and understanding of nature and the surrounding area I would highly recommend Steven.

It is the most beautiful, cozy, adventurer place ever!. The ride from Puerto Jimenez is a little rough so you'll need a 4x4 car, there are ~7 or 8 rivers to cross by, (adventure to the max) and then you get to the Finca Exotica. Make sure to drive and to arrive by the light time as in night it could be more interesting. The place is amazing, there are several rooms (not walls, but nothing to fear) in the middle of green trees. Imagine waking up by the soft light of the sunrise by 4:30 - 5:00 am and just noticing the hour to be able to sleep a little bit more. you can see the monkeys playing around, listen to the birds singing in the morning to just few meters from you. The food is very good (vegetarian options available) and the times provides chance to networking with the other guests with the breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. there are many things to do at the Finca like going thru the trails for bird watching, guided visit to the gardens and off course the great attraction the Corcovado park. Plan ahead your trip. be there not less than 3 nights so you can take advantage of the activities and also take the sun at the beach (which is just crossing the street) The attention is the best. The Staff is very friendly. For sure you'll feel like if you are visiting a family member, At the Finca you can relax wit friends and really enjoy your time there. For your reservation pay attention to the description of the rooms to best fit your needs as there are many options, like tents, or more like rooms. Sure thing you deserve to be in such a beautiful place like the Finca Exotica.

My two friends and I visited Costa Rica from the states for the first time and were looking for an authentic, exotic experience. What we found at Finca Exotica was all of that and so much more.

From the start, booking the trip was seamless. Gaby was very responsive to all of my emails and I was kept totally in the loop throughout my planning. Upon arrival, we were welcomed graciously by Gaby, Markus, Laura and the whole team — they immediately made us feel like lifelong friends. We had originally booked one of the cabins in the garden, but Gaby, without any request from us, upgraded us to the “Rancho” — an incredible two-story cabin overlooking the jungle and the Pacific Ocean. The view was so incredible that we spent the first two hours at Finca sitting in our room admiring the view and watching macaws, toucans and hawks fly by. The bathroom and shower were immersed in nature, and there was even a small pool filled with fresh rain water for us to rinse off in after the long trek uphill (definitely a workout and a little dangerous, but what’d you expect from the jungle?? Totally worth it)

We booked a tour into Corcovado National Park and our guide was Laura, Gaby’s sister. The trek, we all agreed, was one of the most mesmerizing experiences we’ve ever had. Being surrounded by two extreme forces of nature, the rainforest on our right and the Pacific Ocean on our left, made us feel so small, but it was truly breathtaking. On our trek we saw nearly every species of monkey in Costa Rica. At one point, we found ourselves surrounded by a troop of white-faced capuchins, and were able to watch them interact in their naturally habitat from just a few meters away. Laura was a wealth of knowledge, and made the trek both incredibly fun and knowledgeable. By the end of our trek we felt like we had known her for years, and you can really see the love she has for the magic of the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado (check her out on Instagram @osaexperience !!)

A few days before our trip to Costa Rica, my friend was in an accident and had some pretty bad road burn on his leg. Upon arrival, Gaby and Markus noticed his injury and immediately stepped in to help, offering advice for keeping it clean in the jungle, fresh aloe vera, and even ointment. The hospitality the team at Finca offered us was some of the best i have received in my life. They are truly amazing, amazing people who love what they do with all of their hearts.

As for the food... oh my god. We were blessed every day, three times a day, with the most delicious plates of food, all fresh and organic. Every single day, often multiple times a day, there was a large jug of fresh juice available, as well as fresh fruit, herbal teas and Costa Rican coffee. The restaurant was so cozy, filled with hammocks, sitting areas, chess, guidebooks, two adorable dogs and PLENTY of vino. At dinner time we were able to indulge in conversations with people from all over the world all there for the same reason - to immerse themselves in paradise.

As a disclaimer, no, Finca Exotica is not for everyone. There are bugs (though I hate bugs and I was able to handle anything I saw at Finca) and animals — we had a critter visit our cabin nightly, but it never bothered us! If you’re looking for hot water, you’ve also come to the wrong place — though honestly, we were so hot after getting to our cabin the cold water was very much welcomed. There was plenty of electricity and WiFi at the beach house, though honestly we would’ve had no problem if we didn’t have any of this.

To all of the negative reviews, I’m not sure what you were looking for in Finca Exotica. For us, it was everything we could’ve dreamed of and more.

To Gaby, Markus, Laura and the whole team — thank you for the experience of a lifetime. We already cannot wait to be back, and we will be talking about this trip until we die.

Pura vida!! Cannot wait to come back!!

Amazingly nice people Laura and Gabby are fantastic. Good food and very clean. Wake up to scarlet macaws and howler monkeys with coffee on a hammock. At night grab a beer then check out sea turtles nesting on the pristine beach. The property hike is beautiful and the Corcovado park is close by and filled with life - pumas, anteaters, frogs, birds, and huge trees. Fantastic for nature lovers wanting to unplug.
