“Very happy with our visit.”

We stayed two nights at Melvin's house and liked it very much. The house is in great shape, was very clean and well maintained. The view of the jungle is great. We were visited by monkeys one morning.

The best part about Melvin's house is Melvin. What a nice guy.

We hired him for the day and he took us to visit the famous ficus tree. I am a big fan of trees and have traveled all over the world. This is possibly my favorite tree of all. I never would have imagined we could all climb more than 100 feet up this tree (without harnesses) and feel completely safe. What an experience.

Marvin took us to his family ranch and we loved it. If you want to experience the cloud forest without the crowds I highly recommend this.

“Peaceful retreat in the mountain”
Reviewed 1 April 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Melvin's guest house was comfortable, well-equiped and very clean. We couldn't see as many animals as we hoped during our stay, but Melvin and his wife's hospitality more than made up for it - they even shared a fireplace dinner with us one night.

Melvin is in love with Monteverde and this is apparent from the way he designed and built his house turned towards the forest, with big windows letting in all the action in the surroundings into the house.

We didn't really manage to get wi-fi access while at the property, but there are nearby cafes that offer that if needed. The property is away from the center of town, which makes it more peaceful and secluded, but only a 5/10 minute drive to anything you'd want to see or do in Monteverde.

“Kelvins house felt like home- but with monkeys, coatis and toucans as neighbours.”
Reviewed 19 March 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Melvin and his wife are lovely, lovely people. The house is great, the critters that stroll through the grounds in the early morning are wonderfully exotic and the location, right next to the National Park, is perfect. Melvin is also a registered guide, so be sure to book at least one day with him, you won't regret it! He has lived in the area all of his life and it is his backyard.
Beware of the roads in Monteverde, though. You'll need a 4-wheel drive vehicle as the roads are hard packed earth with boulders and pot holes aplenty!
