“An escape from it all”
Reviewed 11 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We had spent the last days in Manlio Antonio - and were happy to get out of the heat - and up to Monteverde. Met Veronica at the Sustainability Center 13 km before Casa Cielo. Loved her and her great work and the place there. Loved our little spot (no microwave) but lots of charm. The view from both levels was amazing... and saw my toucan on the early morning of our last day. Best to have a car if staying here as it is several km from the town of Sante Elena.

“Great bird watching!”
Reviewed 13 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We had two nights here and we loved it, so quiet and peaceful. In the evening we sat on the balcony watching the sun set over the Gulf of Nicoya and bird watching, and in the daytime we visited the National parks about 15-20 mins drive away.
There is a nice little trail below the house that leads to a pond and beyond. It's great for spotting birds.
The road is the only downside. Another review mentioned road works 10 months ago and they were working on it when we were there too, so i think they are probably always trying to keep it level. It is Incredibly dusty--if dry-- and a bit of a rough 14km drive to the property, still, it wasn't an issue for us.
There is an option to order food from the neighbour for just 12 USD pp, which we did, a good option if you want a good-sized portion of traditional Costa Rican food at a good price.

Thank you for your review! Yes, it truly is very peaceful and perfect for bird-watching with lovely sunsets. The road is indeed in poor shape, but supposedly the budget has been approved for paving it... fingers crossed!

“A wonderful, private place to stay near Monteverde and Santa Elena”
Reviewed 21 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We had a great experience at Casa Cielo. We took route 606 to get there which is a dirt road after a certain point, so a 4x4 is recommended. Of note they were working on the road when we stayed, so I expect 606 to continue to improve in drivability. We suggest taking a map application like Waze or OpenStreetMaps.
We were welcomed by Giselle who had prepared us some lemonade and snacks, which were much needed after the drive from San Jose. The location is on the side of a mountain with a gorgeous view. The place has just about everything you would need as far as cooking goes. So you can go to town and get groceries and cook small meals if you want to. There are also some other noteworthy amenities such as a small washer for clothes, a safe for valuables, and an upstairs tub for relaxing at the end of the day. We have no real complaints, except that sometimes at night the wind was very strong and caused something to bang on the roof. This was not a constant problem, but did occur in high winds.
The proximity to Santa Elena was nice, since it was a very quick drive away and gave you access to several options of food and parks.
We would definitely recommend Casa Cielo if you want to visit Monteverde or Santa Elena. You will enjoy the beautiful views and quiet peace.

“Beautiful spot, gorgeous views”
Reviewed 27 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We spent 4 days in Santa Elena, using Casa Cielo as our 'base with a view'. It was a short drive away from the centre of town - close enough for everything we wanted to see and do, but far enough away to feel like a secluded escape. Veronica is wonderful and welcoming, helping us figure out our plans on day one and being a regular resource for questions and advice. Her neighbour Giselle, provided fresh eggs, cheese and milk from her farm (and fresh tortillas and chimichurri) and on our last morning we visited the farm to milk her cows. We spent our days in the incredible natural Reserves (Santa Elena, CERF and Curi Cancha) and our late afternoons sitting in the sun on the balcony looking out at the view. It was a perfect spot for our family.

“Beautiful private cabin”
Reviewed 13 March 2015 for a stay in January 2015

My boyfriend and I stayed here in January 2015 and loved the cabin. It's cozy and private and it's amazing for watching the sunset. During our two night stay we must have seen over 10 rainbows from the cabin, I felt like we were in a Skittles commercial.

Veronica is very helpful and is only a short phone call away. Although we checked in several hours later than we were intending (after 9 pm) Veronica was still able to accommodate us and had someone meet us to drop off the keys and show us the cabin. There was also a homemade snack waiting for us which was a treat!

The only downside of staying here was the highway closures (in January) which restricted access to the cabin to half hour gaps throughout the day so we had to make sure that we planned each trip out of the cabin in accordance with the highway opening schedule. Hopefully all the works are done now though!

This place is definitely worth the value and I would recommend staying here, especially if you are on a tight budget.
