Over all it was a good 2 night stay but unsure i would stay again, but possibly. I liked the fact that it was out of town, im a light sleeper so i try to avoid staying down town anywhere. However, to no fault of the owner, the neighbors dogs barked all night long with a small break probably between 1am-3am which kept waking me up-luckily there was an air purifier in the room that blocked a small amount of the noise...anything helped! We stayed in the Tacari Suite-it does look just like the pictures but it definitely needs some attention. The outside is a little more rusty then appears in the photos including the small patio set but no big deal-still a nice home. When we walked in the smell of must/mold hit us in the face, it was pretty strong-there was no way to get rid of the smell-we wanted to leave the patio door open to help air it out but without having a screen i didnt want to let all the bugs in. The bed and pillows were pretty comfortable however the "decorative pillows" smelled like complete body odor-BAD. I put them all in a shelf on the other side of the room. The bathroom was very nice and clean-the Jacuzzi tub didnt work at all-on the booking site (air bnb) it did not state anything about it not working, when i got my complete itinerary from air bnb 3 days before the trip it then did state 1/2 of the jets didnt work but when we got there, you could fill it up with luke warm water but that was it, no jets at all-key pad to work any of it wouldn't turn on at all-not a huge deal but it would have been nice to use it or to know it didnt work-im sure some people book this suite specifically for that, so it would be disappointing. Wall were dirty and could use a cleaning or fresh coat of paint. Coffee and sugar were provided which was nice in the morning. The mini fridge and microwave worked great, fridge was unplugged when we got there but after we plugged it in, it worked just fine! I originally thought it didnt work when i didnt realize it needed to be plugged in and i messaged the owner letting her know and she was quick to respond thanking me for the info. She had also sent so much helpful information with my booking info-with all the best and favorites in town which was really nice of her! Over all the place was nice and small things dont tend to bother me (i hate mentioning small things about a decent place but it was one small thing after another that kept lowering my excitement about it) If this place got a little TLC it would be absolutely wonderful and i would then consider staying again! I would probably still recommend this place to someone but would want them to know of these small things to just have a heads up!
First of all the host is very very helpful. Unfortunately we had an health emergency and she organized the transport to the next medical station for us during the night. We highly appreciated that.
The apartment itself is nice and we got a deicious banana bread when we arrived. from the place you reach the Monteverde Cloud Forest in a 25 minute walk.
We booked through AirBnB, which did not allow a review after just 2 weeks. Casa Valentina looked like a bargain, but turned out to be a major disappointment as we started our trip to Costa Rica for 6 people. It was certainly big enough for all to stay comfortably, that is until it flooded, twice! The first time nothing was done to get to the root problem, the second time a pipe was dug up outside the house. It ruined plans for one day. It flooded on two sides of the house with one couple having to deal with it in their bathroom and bedroom. As in all Costa Rican homes, we followed the unfortunate rule of putting ALL toilet paper in a trash can. Some areas smelled strongly of mold (probably from frequent floods) and the Jacuzzi tub reeked so bad we would not use it. Hot water ran out one day because the tank was empty (I wish that was the only small issue).
