The public beach (free) of Manuel Antonio is beautiful. If you walk away from the busy entrance area and sit under one of the palm trees you feel if you are all alone on a deserted beach. We didn’t see the monkeys this time but last time the monkeys jumped through the trees and over the beach one afternoon.

Parking is a problem and there are a lot of very irritating people trying to earn money by looking after your car. We left our car at the hotel and walked down. If you stay at the Gaia hotel in Manuel Antonio they have a complimentary taxi service to and thro from the beach.

There are also a lot of taxi’s and tour guides around the entrance area but as soon as you walk further you’re all on your own. Except on the weekends when the locals are free and the beach can get very busy.

The only sellers we encountered on the beach were the cerviche and coconut sellers which we liked as this is really part of their tradition.

Great views of Costa Rica and the wildlife. We went without a guide so we could take the park at our own speed. It was great.

Beach is worth the ten dollars charged to spend as much time as you want, but don't waste money on a tour guide. They will tell you there are all kinds of birds and animals to see. This is not true they are all sleeping and hiding. The walk is on a gravel path, you don't require a guide. It take 45 minutes to walk to the beach not 11/2 hours like they tell you. There is nowhere to buy food so pack snacks and drinks. Also the monkeys on the beach are fun to watch but hang on to belongings as they will grab things. Be careful of rogue waves as the tide comes in.

With exotic marine biology, numerous amphibian, mammal, reptilian, birds and butterfly population, Costa Rica set this area as a nature preserve.

Along the 1.8 Km walk a lot of the above could be seen if you take your time. Upon reaching area 3, then a nice beach is available for a cooling and refreshing dip.
