The public beach (free) of Manuel Antonio is beautiful. If you walk away from the busy entrance area and sit under one of the palm trees you feel if you are all alone on a deserted beach. We didn’t see the monkeys this time but last time the monkeys jumped through the trees and over the beach one afternoon.
Parking is a problem and there are a lot of very irritating people trying to earn money by looking after your car. We left our car at the hotel and walked down. If you stay at the Gaia hotel in Manuel Antonio they have a complimentary taxi service to and thro from the beach.
There are also a lot of taxi’s and tour guides around the entrance area but as soon as you walk further you’re all on your own. Except on the weekends when the locals are free and the beach can get very busy.
The only sellers we encountered on the beach were the cerviche and coconut sellers which we liked as this is really part of their tradition.
