My two kids and I got a beach front room with 2 queen bed rooms on the lower level of the three level construction, that hosts 21 rooms total. Our room was simple in terms of decoration, yet perfect. It was very clean, beds were comfortable, linen was very clean, room smelled good, with quiet AC, mini fridge, a safe, very clean bathroom, with good water pressure and tons of hot water, correct number of towels, hair dryer, and beautiful view on the gardens, in direction of the ocean, although the trees and the the relief don't allow for a view of the ocean per se. The reception of the hotel and some other rooms are on the other side of the main road, not on the side of the beach. To access the hotel property there is a gate with a code on the street side and there is a locked fence on the beach side. The restaurant is rustic and appropriate for beach restaurant, it is open to the air and has great service. Breakfast was delicious except for the coffee and the water that taste like old pipes and in my opinion would benefit greatly from simple carbon filtration system. There were monkeys early in the morning and it feels like paradise to be able to have breakfast on the beach looking at the ocean just 20 meters front where you seat. We lunch there once and enjoyed the pasta, as well as the rice with palm tree hearts. Nice perk of this place is the large amount of shade on the beach thanks to the palm and almond trees plus service on the beach of drinks and food. Also I enjoyed the surf lessons with my children, we also loved riding a banana boat and even did one parasailing adventure. Manuel Antonio is a mountain and it is hard to find hotels on the beach, this hotel is a wonderful option for those looking for easy access to the beach. It is still a 3 star hotel so no luxury here except for the fact that you are on the beach with a person serving you drinks and food steps away from the pacific ocean and a pool and a shower to rinse and a clean cool room. I would give this place 4 stars if they started filtering their water at the hotel.

Room tip: choose rooms on the beach side with "ocean view"

This hotel is in two parts - half consists of villas with a spectacular view, and half the rooms are across the street on the beach. We stayed on the beach side. The garden is lovely and the beach itself is spectacular. Because there is limited public access, it's quiet and not crowded. There's a locked gate between the hotel and the beach. The restaurant is in a grove of trees right off the beach and you can't beat that location, either. Food is basic but good. The bartender makes good drinks! Staff are very friendly.
There were some problems. The first room stank. A staffer came and agreed and moved us to another room. There, the AC rattled very loudly. We started to move to a third room, but the staffer noted the AC in that room did not blow cold air at all, so back to room No.2 where the AC quieted down. It was fixed by the next day and the manager told us the first, stinky room had been cleaned.
The rooms are quite basic but comfortable. You can see the sea from the 2nd and 3rd floors of the beachside rooms.
The climb to the villas is quite steep - not for the out of shape.
There's a LOT of animal life, and white-faced monkeys visited the restaurant. There are giant iguanas who beg for food, which delighted us. The birds are noisy but hey, you are in a jungle.
Our car was safe in the locked parking lot. We felt secure there.

Room tip: 2nd or 3rd floor beachside is your best bet

The room we booked (standard double) was across the road from the beach, pool and restaurant. It was large but the beds weren't particularly comfortable and the air conditioning unit was nowhere near the beds. There was also no TV or hairdryer. Bathroom was modern but the room itself was very dated.

The reception staff (whilst others were lovely) failed to inform us about beach towels, the safe and other amenities while other guests were told about upon arrival.

The benefit of having the beach on your doorstep is outweighed by the fact that you have to walk either along the road or beach for around 10 minutes to get to the town. There are numerous restaurants up the hill but, unless you fancy walking for 15-20 minutes, a taxi is required and prices are extortionate.

We saw monkeys, iguanas and other wildlife on the property which was nice.

When I got there I was never told i would have to climb several stairs to my room. Carrying all the luggages under the rain with no help was the worse. Especially when i got up there the key wasn’t working. So i had to go downstairs and ask about it. They maintenance guy was on his way home and seemed annoyed to want to help. Made the best of it though. The rooms were very basic with no tv. The fridge was very small and was very dirty. The next morning we went to the private beach. The view there was amazing.

The hotel is rather simple and could do with some renovation works but the location right by the beach makes up for everything. Also, the garden is lovely and the pool very nice. Reasonable prices, too.
