We stayed here for 2 nights in March 2012 on a tour with Caravan Tours. We were a little apprehensive because the reviews made this place seem really rustic. The cabins were clean and comfortable with nice privacy curtains. There was enough roof overhang to keep even the hardest rain out and the ceiling fan kept the room comfortable. There were large iguanas in the trees along the river and a sloth living in a tree next to one of the cabins. We had some of the best meals of our 10-day tour here with very fresh food and excellent table service. I was amazed at how fresh and good the meals were here in the jungle a 2 hour boat ride from anything. The boat tours featured eagle-eyed wildlife spotters that found wildlife that was very hard to see. The boats had good life-jackets for everyone and also ponchos in case of rain. We only had the howler-monkeys the second morning and they waited until almost 6am before serenading us. I actually felt cheated at not being awakened by howler-monkeys on the first morning. The wake-up calls were unique with a staff member offering coffee, tea, or hot chocolate along with a knock at your door.

A beautiful piece of property, surrounded by lush gardens. The rooms are cabin style and private. For those looking for convenience this is not the place, no tv's, phones or Internet in the rooms. Wifi is available near the reception area. The only real downside here is that it is very wet and musty, and there are limited activities and meal options, especially if you are vegan, like me.

A very remote location with beautiful grounds surrounding the duplexes with rocking chairs on the porch. There were beautiful flowers and butterflies everywhere and even a banana tree next to my porch. It was a 2 hour boat ride on the river to get here. My room was comfortable but lots of dust on the furniture, etc. maybe due to the fact there is no glass on the windows, just screens. There is a ceiling fan which was very adequate the two nights our group was there. I knew I was in definitely in the jungle when the howler monkeys gave us a very loud wake-up call at 5:00 am!

I stayed this lodge for two nights. The wild life is great and there are a lot animals can be found on this island. It felt so very close to the nature. The lodges set up is quite cosy except every two room are open or joint on the ceiling so I could hear the next door neighbor snoring at night. It was a little awkard but I guess you are not going to there for luxury. I found a few worms in the bathroom which is the only thing that bothered me a bit during my entire stay in costa rica. But it only happened one night. The room is very basic and the ceiling fan doesn't do much. With such hot and humid condition I'd appreciate an AC room and again I'm not sure if that's possible in tortogueto. Overall experience with the room was only ok, coz of the temperature was unbearable at once(much hotter than outside). But the lodge does provides you the special experience with rain forest and the plants and gardens are very beautiful. I wouldn't recommend for honeymoon but for an authentic rain forest experience is well worth the sweat and mosquitos bites :))

We were on a tour with a group of ten. In order to get to this lodge you travel by boat for 2 hours on this beautiful river. Our rooms were spacious and clean, but what surprised us was there were only screens on the windows, no glass. It is rather warm and humid there, but not unbearable. The nights cooled down and the ceiling fans in the rooms helped. After hiking in the rain forest for a couple hours we found that sitting by the bar overlooking the river was really enjoyable and there always was a nice breeze. The food was buffet and was wonderful, the service was great also. The staff was always cleaning the grounds and they were spottless!
We were there for 2 nights and each morning we were woken up by the group of howler monkeys that live in the trees there. Loved it!
