We took the tour here with our young kids and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica - really interesting, nice variety & fun - highly recommended!
We had the privilege of staying a month in this area and enjoyed this place often! Their smoothies and Mocha Frio are so refreshing and the chocolate is so delicious! We took the chocolate tour and Oscar is an incredible guide that really opened our eyes to how complex making chocolate is but how good it is to enjoy when done well! We loved the stunning views of the chocolate tour and decided our best souvenir to bring home to loved ones was the chocolate bars from this place! They have a great deal when you buy 10 bars! Everyone on staff was warm and welcoming!
Thanks for the great review! We are glad you enjoyed the tour with Oscar! Thanks for taking some of the Caribbean home and for blessing our staff with the recognition of their good service.
Nice tour with chatty guide saw some animals and lots of chocolate samples - wasn't my favourite chocolate I've tasted in CR but still nice. Considering some of the other tours in the area at 10 or 25 dollars I think it could be a bit cheaper but altogether really happy with it.
Thanks for taking our tour, even though it was a couple of dollars more. For your $28 dollars you get a complete experience of both the cacao forest and chocolate factory. The tour provides tastings of the highest level chocolate in Costa Rica made from organic cacao produced by single family farms here in the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Yes there are some other options for less money. But, no other tour is as complete or offers as beautiful views as our tour offers. Caribeans also pays our guides and workers higher salaries than any other tour or chocolate maker in the area. That is why it is a couple of dollars more.
We loved this tour. It was led by Oscar who was informative and hilarious. We saw the entire chocolate making process from the trees and local farmers who take care of them to the packaging of the bars. We sampled chocolate derived from other local farm's trees and compared the taste. We heard the history of the industry in the area and had personal attention by the owner and his guides. We also ran in to many animals up close, a tiny red frog, many sloths, one of the most poisonous snakes in the area (safely trapped in a bucket), a beautiful giant spider and, of course, two very friendly family dogs. The walk is more of a hike, with many steep sections, on excellent paths, but with many stopping points for explanations, rest and observation. We enjoyed trying out the chocolates back at the cafe and left with a variety of delicious options. This tour was amazing!
Wonderful tour from Paul and Oscar. We hiked up the mountain with Oscar pointing out the history of chocolate in Costa Rica, and we were able to crack open a cacao pod when we reached the peak overlooking the ocean.
From there we had a chocolate tasting session from a few local growers, some ceremonial hot chocolate, and lastly some chocolate tasting paired with vanilla, sea salt, cilantro garlic, and other odd pairings. Most went very well with the dark chocolate.
Paul seems to really care about his workers and giving back to the community. Their cafe is also an excellent place to get some caffeine and lunch meals.
My family group took a 2 PM chocolate walk with Paul and Oscar on 6/19. Our guides were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They made the walk and the chocolate tasting a real experience. The chocolate milkshakes at Caribeans after the walk were exceptional!!
