We spent ten amazing days recently in Cahuita and we owe a lot of it to Anne's hospitality and her wonderfully located home. Casa Verde was perfectly situated close enough to town and adjacent to the Black Road and Beach as well as several strategically located bars and restaurants. We had a good time in town at all of the shops, bars and eating establishments. We took some good hikes into Cahuita National Park and did a trip with friends to Puerto Viejo and Playa Mansanillo (beautiful beach, well worth it, short trip from Cahuita). We also did a two night trip to Bocas Del Toro, Panama, arranged by Willy's Tours (Jorge) in town. An amazing adventure which is a whole other story. Willy's did a great job of taking care of all of our needs. Definitely do at least two nights in Bocas if you do this. Well worth it. We loved Anne's house and she was usually always available if we had questions or needed anything. We were very grateful for all of her help and advice. My only recommendation would be that if you are there during the hot and humid season like we were make sure that you have a couple of extra fans available. We had air conditioning in our upstairs bedroom which was absolutely amazing and necessary. The rest of the time you pray for a breeze. Thanks Anne!!
We arrived in need of some serious R&R, and this was the ideal place for it. The apartment is spacious and well appointed, providing everything you need - from toast in the morning, to fruity blender drinks on your private patio in the evening. There was a clothes line for drying beach gear, and a hammock for when you just can't be bothered to leave the yard. The location is ideal, away from the noise of downtown, but only a block from the best restaurant in Cahuita (Sombre Las Olas) and a great reggae bar that has live music and a laid-back vibe. You can rent bikes or book tours at nearby Brigitte's, Playa Negro is just across the street, and Playa Blanca (and Cahuita National Park) is a leisurely 15 minute walk. The check in process was easy, and Annie was quick to respond to any questions we had about her place, or the surrounding area.
This was an awesome place!! It's a cozy 2 bedroom/2bath house that is a short walk to the beach. It had a covered porch with a fan and two hammocks you can lounge in. I actually slept a couple of nights in the hammocks. Not to mention Annie was wonderful. She helped me with any questions I had. She will book excursions/accommodations/rental cars for you, inform you of good places to eat, anything and everything!! She even introduced me to several people while I was there. I would definitely recommend this place and I will definitely be visiting here again.
The accommodation is very good value and Annie is a wonderful hostess!!! Thank you Annie!!! You instantly feel at home:) Annie was very helpful and gave us a warm welcome to Cahuita.
The accommodation has all the amenities to cook your own food and enjoy a cold one or eat out if you wish. It's a 10 minute brisk walk to all the amenities in lovely Cahuita. Simply relax on the wonderful and private patio and take in all the tropical sounds including howler monkeys and birds while sipping on the best coffee in the world. Enjoy the 2 floor suite with an air conditioned master bedroom and second bedroom on the main floor. A great place for a family or a few friends traveling together..
Do a day walk in Cahuita National Park in the jungle and along the Carribean beaches. It's a civilized walk and you can have a swim in the ocean along the way. For beginners, you might want a guide and be careful with your personal belongings while swimming on the beach. Avoid bringing fresh food in your pack or you might be chased by a white capichan monkey:) At the end of your walk you have the option of jumping into a swimming pool beside an outdoor bar and also have a great lunch.
Visit the 2 animal sanctuaries (Tree of Life) and (Jaguar- no jaguar's actually but other animals are there; both are great value and will leave you thinking about becoming a volunteer. If you get Rachel at the Jaguar sanctuary as a guide you are lucky).
Consider the Bri Bri tour but come prepared with water. It's a very big day but a unique experience. If you get the chance to meet Luis, host and family leader, consider yourself blessed.
A skip, hop and a jump to Sobre las Olas Restaurant, great seafood by the ocean. Go early as you just might see the beautiful moon sparkle on the ocean. We saw a mother sloth and baby climb down a palm tree while having dinner.
Also, the accommodation is close to Pizzeria Cahuita, which was very good pizza.
We will be back Annie! Pura Vida:)
