Basic rooms with broken furniture, no safe, no fridge. Very small bathroom. Included breakfast is in buffet style, many fruit flies on the food. Dinner was good though. Bad maintenance of the place; broken pooltable, broken tiles and broken chairs around the swimming pool. Butterfly garden closed. Nice frog garden.

This is a hotel but also has a whole range of other facilities included, like a restaurant, a conference centre, some hiking trails, a frog garden.
The rooms are spacious but a bit basic. The air conditioning and warm water shower worked well. There was no safe in the room but we were able to leave some valuables at the reception.
The road leading up to this place is gravel for the last few hundred meters.
The staff was very friendly and they let us check out later than the set time because we still had a rafting tour on the day of departure.
There are 2 pools.
Food at the restaurant was decent with a selection of pizzas (Italians beware, pizzas are more American style). The included breakfast was okay - quite standard Costa Rican options here.
The main drawback seemed to be the maintenance of the place - the butterfly garden for example didn't seem to have been touched by a gardener in weeks at least. The hiking trails were inaccessible and there was a field with old, rusty equipment from an obstacle course towards the back of the property. Some of the other parts, in contrast, were maintained more meticulously. I don't know if this is because it wasn't high season at the time of visit...?
There are nice activities available nearby.

We had a lovely 2 days stay at this family owned Lodge. Our room was spacious with a balcony surrounded by lush vegetation ( a minor drawback was the small bathroom which could do with being updated). The room was situated between the upper swimming pool and the Restaurant, so only a short walk for either. The staff were extremely helpful and arranged a terrific white water rafting ride down the Sarapiqui river with Mariano, working for Green River Rafting. Whilst being extremely professional and attentive to us oldies (72 & 75!) he was tremendous fun and informed about the wildlife we saw. It was one of the highlights of our Costa Rican holiday.

The rooms are scattered throughout the property in small cabins often with two rooms in one cabin.
Be prepared to walk. Our cabin was up a steep hill and others were the same. The pathways are lined with bushes and flowers. Charming if you don't mind the uphill grade.
Rooms were big and basic but quite acceptable. There was often a patio door leading to a small patio with chairs. No safe. No frig. Good a/c but some outside a/c units were close to bedrooms and a bit noisy.
Bathroom was small but adequate. Toilet was noisy. Hot water available and not an issue. Toilet paper not flushed. Small sink but again, adequate.
Two pools. The upper one at the top of the hill was pleasant. Had a bathroom and a pool table. Chaise loungers were broken though.
Don't forget to get a towel at reception at check-in or you will have another climb down to get one. The lower pool is larger...I didn't use that one.
Grounds are extensive. There is a caiman pool where you can spot large and small ones. Also a frog pool.
At the restaurant, which is open air and not air conditioned, there are two bird feeders with fruit so all kinds of birds frequent the feeder all the time. Very entertaining.
There are tours near by...white water rafting, bat, chocolate, birds. And close by there is a community centre which offers cooking lessons.
Wifi only in the hotel lobby. You don't need it if you want to take advantage of the environment.
Water refil tank in lobby so take your own water bottle.
Small gift shop which has the essentials.
A charming place which reminds you that you are in Costa Rica.

We stayed for 3 nights. The location is great for wildlife (birds, frogs, Cayman etc) and the staff are very friendly. The food in the restaurant is very good. We had pizzas which were amazing. The rooms are very basic - poorly lit and no safe, but the benefits probably outweigh the drawbacks.
