For me, who came to Costa Rica in search of butterflies and birds, this lodge was great, as the plantings are very natural and mostly native species (unlike the more common lawn with decorative plantings). I found the wildlife there more rewarding than at Tirimbina or La Selva BS (and no extra entrance fee or required guide)
The room was large, the AC great, but the lighting was very dim in the bedroom. After I asked if a second bulb could be added to the overhead fixture, I was brought a table lamp which didn't do much. The bathroom was much more brightly lit. Seating was also very limited - a broken metal armchair was replaced with a standard folding chair.
The food was disappointing. After reading that the restaurant here was the second highest rated in Sarapiqui, I expected more. The pizza was just OK. The quesadillas were nearly inedible as they were just dripping grease. I did not eat any of the larger entrees. Breakfast was just passable with a very brown omelet one day, and ordered juice and tea forgotten the next morning.
My room was up the hill, by the smaller pool, which I had to myself most of the time. Very peaceful.
The staff were very friendly and did their best to make my stay pleasant.More
