Arrived here about a week ago for a wedding hosted by the resort. Amazing view of the volcano and beautiful reception for aby wedding! The hot springs were beautiful! Only concern I encountered was the food as it was expensive and not what I expected. Other then that, the resort was amazing!

I would recommend this resort for the view alone! The rooms were very clean and were great!

The best thing about this hotel is the hot springs and pools. The really are lovely - a series of meandering pools of different temperatures wrapped around a swim-up bar and various seating options. We enjoyed the drinks at the bar, hopping between the pools and just relaxing in the tropical setting. Wonderful. It's also great that the pools/springs are reserved for guests of the hotels as it seems many of the other hotels sell admission to non-guests.

The rooms are quite nice -- spread out and fairly private. Clean and with a fridge for use with some free drinks, which is a really nice touch. I loved that the shower had a "ceiling" that was basically wavy plexiglass (it's nicer than it sounds), which let in natural light so it felt like an outdoor shower. It also sloped down to a stone wall in the shower so that when it rained outside, the rain would run down the wall - again making it feel like it was an outdoor shower. It's a fun and unique design feature.

We arranged one tour through the concierge (the sloth tour) and it was arranged perfectly and was our favorite activity of the trip. Highly recommended.

A few minor details that kept this from being a 5 star review:
-the food at the hotel was pretty good but not great. We ate breakfast 2 days and had lunch at the swim-up bar and both were just ok, although the selection was good.
- perhaps this is inevitable in a tropical setting like CR, but we had tiny ants in our room. Wouldn't have been a big deal except that they were on our bed. So, we had to brush a few off from time to time.
-service was a little slow. We were checked in but they couldn't find anyone to take us to our room (which is necessary the first time to explain how to turn on the electricity, etc) so we waited for a while for that until the front-desk guy finally did it himself. He promised to send someone to unlock the door between our two rooms but that never happened until we called again later. We also received a mystery delivery of blankets one night at 10 pm that we had not ordered.
-there was a wedding at the hotel on our first night. We weren't really that close to the restaurant but the music was loud enough to wake us up and keep us awake until the event was over. If you value your sleep or quiet, you may want to inquire whether there are any parties before booking. To be fair, the music did stop at around 10 pm but we had gone to be quite early to get up for a very early morning tour.

All in all, a very nice hotel and we would return if we were in the area. Those hot springs were one of my favorite experiences of our CR trip.

Love this place! The view is amazing and the rooms are spacious and clean. We had a room on the far end, 3rd floor, 1102 and it was PERFECT. We were facing the volcano and the top floors are perfect for viewing the volcano from your room. We also had an in room jacuzzi which we used waaay more than we thought we would, highly recommended. The walk to the lobby/restaurant was a bit of a trek but honestly, you are walking through this amazing garden surrounded by hot springs, wildlife, and a volcano, can't really complain! They will also send a van to come and pick you up/drive you down if you're feeling a tad lazy that day...which we did a couple times :-)

The on site hot springs were quite relaxing. They also have another site about 5 minutes down the road that they will drive you to that is just hot springs. We went here just for fun one day (they drive you for free) and these springs were even warmer, actually spa hot, and they had a bartender bring drinks to you while you're soaking which was wonderful.

The drinks here are great as is the food, although it is on the pricier side....so we would switch off and enjoy a drink and dinner at the hotel one night and then drinks/meals in town the next day (see info on taxis/shuttles below).

The spa is great, check it out! They offered me a free facial upon check in which I took full advantage of and LOVED. I was totally interested in buying a complete facial from them but had to leave to travel to our next destination.

Other info:

They will order you a cab to bring you to and from town which is super convenient...but expensive....$16 EACH WAY. They do have a shuttle that runs around 2:15 to the town and 5:30 back from the town, for free. This is great but the times kind of suck, so we would take the shuttle one way and then a taxi back after we hung out at town all day and enjoyed drinks/dinner or lunch. $30 to get to and from town is a bit steep....especially since it's only about 10 minutes away. So look at your other options here, we were also considering renting our own car....

They have a fridge in the room but it is only for their food, there is no other fridge...and the food/drinks, as in most hotels, is a tad expensive. We went to town and grabbed our own water, beers, and wine, then took out all of their items and placed them besides the fridge and put our self bought items inside. They seemed to keep track of this just fine and did not charge us $5/beer or water (their price, in town it's about $1 per) since they knew that we had purchased them ourselves.

Another note I want to make...from reading the other reviews...is that 4/5 star means something very different in other countries. If you are in the USA (or other countries), you are used to a certain type of rating system which does NOT apply to Costa Rica...or many other countries. Not every country rates their hotels the same way (not every country has the same wifi access either...but we had no issues here!). Honestly, my husband and I usually stay at around 3 or 4 stars (from USA) and this hotel was something we have never experienced before. I have also been to Costa Rica/Nicaragua/Panama multiple times and have stayed at many different hotels, this place is one of my favorites. We had no issues with bugs, hot water wasn't a problem, there was free wifi (what?!) and the food was amazingly good. The staff was super attentive and really wanted you to feel at home and to make sure you were comfortable. We truly enjoyed our stay here and would come back in a heartbeat!

Traveling for the 1st time to Costa Rica, I turned to the assistance of a travel agent and I wasn't disappointed. Arenal Springs Resort & Spa was so wonderful. The rooms are spacious, clean & comfortable. The grounds were so beautiful with all the flowers & greenery. I loved the groups of hammocks around the property to enjoy the quiet & beauty. Staff was very friendly & happy to help in any way when asked. The thermal poos was just perfection & we enjoyed it every night we were there.

One suggestion is, do NOT bring food back to the room unless you can put it into the fridge. Small ants will come out of NOWHERE and enjoy the meal you brought back to them.

The resort is perfect for a slower, quieter vacation. Perfect for a romantic getaway, couples vacation or a girls getaway.

The lodges were all well equipped and not too close together. The site is set out very well and the grounds are beautiful. The pool area and hot springs are a wonderful place to relax.
We stayed here for just a couple of nights as a base while exploring the area and for that purpose I truly could not think of anywhere better to stay but I don't know enough about staying here longer term.
Felt well above the standard we are used too and we normally go to 4 or 5 star

Room Tip: You want the best view of the volcano
