We had a wonderful visit to the Tilajari Resort. The rooms are modest but clean and come with a patio or porch. The rooms are in six separate buildings with only 2 floors (I don't believe they have elevators.). The grounds are beautiful and a river runs along the back of the resort. Our room faced the river but you cannot see the river due to the lush foliage. There is a wonderful open air restaurant which serves a complimentary hot breakfast buffet (I think this is common throughout Costa Rica) and a very good dinner. During breakfast one morning the waitstaff put fruit out for the iguanas and they put on a good show. There is a variety of beautiful birds that feed just outside of the restaurant so you have a great view of the birds during breakfast. They have 3 pools, tennis courts, a gym and a sauna, although I'm not sure why you would need one. The humidity outside is pretty high. We loved our visit and would definitely visit again on next trip to Costa Rica. This is a quiet hotel, very different than the other pricey hotels in La Fortuna, just a few miles down the road. Please be aware, this hotel is east of La Fortuna, although the address is listed as Arenal.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room facing the river.

We stayed for a week in this wonderful resort and apart from the noisy air conditioning, I have nothing but praise for the staff, the rooms, the food and the bar service. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were all so kind, polite and happy. The waiters cracked jokes with us at meals and managed to get us things that were not on the menu. The complimentary toiletries were amazing and it was spotlessly clean.

My tip is to take a walk to the Muelle de San Carlos crossroads, which is about 15 minutes on a busy road and check out how the locals live, the food at the supermarket (and the incredibly high prices) and wonder at the size of the pineapple lorries as they thunder past. The swimming pool is glorious; I would love to go back.

Room Tip: Try for an upper room with a balcony, more private.

The staff are incredible at this hotel, they did everything they could do make our stay special. The food was beautiful and more than enough for all tastes, the drinks were all inclusive and there was a good choice.
Our room was large and clean, the water was always hot and the air con was just right.
There were Parrots, Toucans and Woodpeckers in the gardens Iguanas and a Sloth. We loved this hotel and pool.

Part of tour group, all members given upper rooms with balconies overlooking beautiful grounds and the river - lovely place to sit and watch the thunder/lightening and torrential rain - well it is equatorial. Staff all very friendly and helpful, food variable sometimes buffet, sometimes a la carte with menu of the day thrown in, some of the food not very warm but after complaint it soon improved. Nice pool area with separate jacuzzi with balcony. Gym could do with some update as equipment very dated. Grounds are full of wildlife in particular huge iguanas and lots of birds, bird feeders close to restaurant so you can have breakfast whilst trying to get a few photos.

Room Tip: Ask for upper floor

Beautiful grounds, loved the horses and butterfly garden. Restaurant was nice, service was great. Included breakfast was delicious and ample. Room was spacious with a balcony. Loved the cream and soaps they supplied in the room, however taking off 1 star because the products were said to be available in the gift shop, which they were not. I had to order them via internet when back in the states.

Room Tip: Close to La Fortuna and Hot Springs
