Located in the Pudong area of Shanghai - This new and very modern hotel is definitely off the beaten path as far as Shanghai goes. It's a 30 RMB taxi ride to the Bund or the Yan Gardens and you have to take the tunnel. We walked to the Pearl Tower in about 25 minutes one night. Lots of nice little restaurants just across the main street and a good convenience store too. The staff at the front desk and concierge were all very attentive and friendly - the doormen were always very quick to get us taxis. There is an ATM just outside the main doors and down about 50 ft. Stay up high to get great views of the River - we stayed in 3223, which did not overlook the Bund but we saw further up the river which was still nice. The breakfast buffet was vast and varied with lots of good Chinese and Western food. Shower and Bathtub were all great and it was very safe and extremely quiet. We had left an umbrella down in the lobby by mistake and when we came back they had saved it for us. Special thanks to Ken in the restaurant for getting me a corkscrew for our wine one night! Highly Recommended.

My only complaint would be that it's a little too far away from anything of interest - but that can be a good thing too. Expect to use a taxi to get just about everywhere. It's an hour away from the Hongqiao airport or Train station and about 20-30 minutes from Yan Gardens and The Bund depending on the time of day.

Room Tip: The higher up the better and ask for a view of The Bund or the river

Hi,

the hotel is quite nice at first. Nice lobby, nice swimming pool, nice gym. I had small suite given as a free updgrade. Thanks.
The big problem is the lack of Internet in the room. This is quite classical in China, but at this point this is more than a problem.
The breakfast is not great as well. There is a buffet, with many things, but not so many you can really enjoy in the end.
Location is not bad.

I chose the Eton because I needed to be very near the Metro, which it is. This is a very comfortable hotel and my upgraded room on the 28th floor had amazing views over Pudong. I ate in the Grill on one night and I was the only customer there. They have a great looking bar and the restaurants are actually very nice but not busy at all. I also used the Spa and Pool and Gym which is kitted out with very modern equipment and was perfectly clean. The hotel is very near the river, Pudong side, and unlike the Bund it's not over developed yet which was quite refreshing when I went for a walk there one evening. There are a few Chinese Style restaurants in the road behind the hotel and a 711 convenience shop, but getting to Nanjing Road on the Bund is easy on the Metro. There is a lot development work happening in the area around the hotel and beyond but this didn't dampen my stay here. Usually I stay on the Bund but I will stay at the Eton again perhaps when the development work in the area is complete.

I booked the hotel online and got a very good price. The hotel is right next to the line 4, so it was super convenient for us. I got a family room at 26th floor with a view towards the financial district. The only downpoint is they don't even have a boiler in the room, so it was really uncomfortable for a morning-tea-drinker like me. Overall, the hotel is very decent and worth the price.

I was happy with almost everything about this hotel except that the staff like to shout at each other and gossip in front of the guests. The front desk supervisor was rebuking a trainee for being "an idiot". The chef at breakfast was chatting loudly with another chef about why a colleague quit. All fascinating stuff but maybe should be fixed with some training!
Location is 5 minutes by taxi from the Pudong CBD, I got upgraded which was nice, and the prices are reasonable. Breakfast was good and the rooms comfortable. The concierge was helpful and the reception desk also gave clear directions to my meetings.
I would recommend this place if you have a budget, want somewhere comfortable and don't need to impress any guests or visitors.
