I stayed here for one night, sept 30. location is just great for walking--right in the middle of things. I came by subway from the airport. but heads up: if you're coming from out of town, subway isn't that close, and it's a pedestrian-only street, so i guess if you have too much luggage to handle, you'd taxi to a street a block away. my room was adequate (I didn't pay for the high priced spread), so I can't complain. cramped, but i expect that in the middle of a big city. however, i was very disappointed in the service i got there. I asked the people at the front desk when i checked in if they had subway maps in english, and they said no. I showed them a map of shanghai and pointed to a place i wanted to visit and asked if i could get there by subway, and they said no. then i went to the subway, and luckily bumped into some westerners who had a subway map in english--i asked where they'd gotten it (i'd already asked subway employees, who didn't have any), and they said their hotel gave it to them :). then I figured out how to easily get to the place i wanted to visit by subway. then that night i had no hot--even warm--water in my room, so after literally walking all over town for 10 hours in pouring rain, i couldn't take a shower. (OK, you could argue that I'd had a continuous one all day :).) so i would probably not return to this hotel, altho maybe its location location location, as they say in the real estate world, would cause me to reconsider. but i'd be ambivalent.

Hotel itself is convenient, 2 subway stations nearby connecting you to almost anywhere in shanghai and 10-15 mins walk to the bund.. and a great price of under 500 RMB/night, room was spotless and air conditioning worked well.. Also wifi worked perfectly except that chinese Internet blocks nearly all the known social media websites , my problem was in the nanjing east road, the crowd was unbearable and loads of tourist traps with no quality shopping options, you can akip their breakfast cuz though its cheap ( 30 rmb/person) yet its mainly catering for the Chinese guest, theres a 7 eleven store by the bund where u can stock up.. next time i guess i would choose a hotel in nanjing west road or the French concession, or the bund if i had a higher budget.

Location wise is great. As a member of Jinjiang Inn, the hotel rates is only half! Its about 30 mins walk to the bund area. Restaurant are everywhere and you can get good, reasonable halal food just across the street.

A nice hotel with great food and menu. Bar was good but as is always the way in China we had to plea to keep it open. We could only use the facilities in Grosvenor House where our rooms were situated. Business centre was useless as it was still operating on Windows XP. Good ATM and cash exchange facilities. Lovely clean rooms and comfortable too. Centrally situated hotel with great shopping nearby.

The hotel is not bad for the price, but the area has gone downhill. You can't walk outside without being accosted by tea girls, pimps and touts. What used to be a good area for restaurants and shopping has gone to the dogs and even as an experienced traveller I didn't feel safe in the area.

Room Tip: If you have to stay here, pick a room in the back and enter/leave from the back entrance through the pay laundry area.
