After a two week trip travelling to a few cities around China I ended my visit with three nights in Shanghai. I arrived fairly late in the evening by train and got the subway over to People's Square. The station is a bit of a labyrinth but as I walked out of the exit I was greeted by the view of the Radisson Blu, just over the road. Many station exits lead to this location, including numbers 5, 6 and 19. Check in Check in was a breeze. I was a bit tired so a lot of the information I was given went straight over my head but the gentleman checking me in was great and was happy to repeat things. I think I missed him explaining my room had been upgraded so when I got to the room I was a bit taken aback. Room The room was huge. When I booked the hotel I knew I was going to be in a suite but the suite I ended up with (room 3310) was enormous with separate office, living/dining area, w/c by the entrance as well as an en-suite bathroom with bath and separate walk in shower. The bedroom area was large with a king sized bed and chaise longue. My only complaint with the room was the number of light switches. First world problems though as the room was incredible.

Been on the 33rd floor and overlooking the People's Park and Nanjing Road, I had fantastic views of the city. There was some noise from the park which I had seen complaints about in other reviews but it never really bothered me. Perhaps if I'd been on a lower floor it would've been worse.

Food

My stay was bed and breakfast and I ate breakfast there every morning. The Windows on the Park restaurant was where the buffet breakfast was. There was a really good variety to the selection which would cater for most nationalities. There was the usual full English, waffles and pancakes, pastries, cereals, cold meats and cheeses as well as slightly more adventurous selections from around the world.

My only complaint about the food would be that the sausages were a bit cheap and nasty but apart from that it was all really good quality.

On my last night I went to the same restaurant for dinner. I was going to have the buffet which is a special price for guests but I wasn't particularly enamoured by the selection so opted for the waygu beef burger from the à la carte menu. This was possibly one of the best burgers I've ever had. The beef was delicious.

TIP: If you're a bit funny about your burger being pink inside then make sure you ask for it well done when you order. Mine was really pink which I don't mind when it's a good quality burger but I realise some people may not like that.

Spa and Fitness

As I was wanting to relax after my two weeks of travelling I took advantage of the leisure facilities in the hotel. The pool was very quiet, just me and one other person. You will be made to wear a swimming cap, presumably to prevent hair clogging up the filters. The water was nice and warm which is always welcome.

In the men's changing room (and presumably the women's as well) there are some spa facilities including a sauna and a steam room. There were also hot and cold plunge pools. I'm not sure if the hot one should've been a whirlpool. There seemed to be jet nozzles in the side but it was never on. This wasn't a problem though as it was so relaxing just sitting up to your neck in a heated pool feeling all the stresses wash away.

I was actually surprised how busy the spa was compared to the pool. I think this reflected the standard of the facilities. They were well maintained, and cleaned and restocked regularly by the staff.

As these facilities are in the men's changing rooms, they are clothing optional with most people walking around and using the facilities while nude which is much more comfortable and hygienic than sitting in the sauna or soaking in the hot pool in underwear or swimwear as I witnessed one or two chaps doing. There are plenty of towels available so just ensure you sit on one in the sauna and remember to shower before using the facilities.

It was very difficult to find faults with the hotel and if I go to Shanghai again this will definitely be my first choice to stay and I will recommend it to everyone I know.More
