I have used trip advisor for many years but have never written a review until now. My stay at the Intercontinental Hotel Puxi has been so exceptional and memorable that I felt I needed to write this review...and hopefully the management at the hotel will read this and pass along my praises to all the staff at the hotel, particularly those working in the Club Block.
My husband and I are avid travelers and the Intercontinental Puxi is on our short list of favorite hotels in the world, particularly for business. I have stayed here 3 times now and my husband has stayed countless times since his office is a mere 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. We recently stayed with our 3-month old son for 2 weeks from Nov 12 - Nov 26 in the Club tower. ROOMS: We have stayed in the non-Club rooms in the past as well and both have been spectacular in the rooms and service. The rooms are very large and luxurious, probably amongst the best in terms of modern amenities and technology. The decor is very modern but yet comfortable. The bathrooms are extra large with huge rain shower heads, the beds are comfortable, and the Toto toilets are amazing...you will never want an ordinary toilet after this. CUSTOMER SERVICE: While the room was spectacular, I write this review mainly to praise the exceptional hotel staff and management. CUSTOMER SERVICE: While the room was spectacular, I write this review mainly to praise the exceptional hotel staff and management. Every single staff from the ones working in the lobby, restaurants, concierge, registration, bellman, housekeeping, and room service were professional, genuinely helpful, friendly, and eager to please. Since we spent most of our time in the Club Block for breakfast and afternoon tea, we interacted most with the staff in that area. We cannot say enough how friendly and hospitable the staff made us feel during our two week stay. They always had a smile on their face. It felt like family. They played with our 3-month old son, they remembered our drinks, and always helped me carry my plates to the table while I was carrying my son. We wish we could remember all their names to acknowledge their hard work and exceptional customer service...of note was Janet H (she has a daughter) and Sophie. We didn't realize how amazing the Intercontinental staff were until we settled into the Hilton Hongqiao afterwards (my husband's office moved to new location so we had to move hotel to be closer to the new office). The Hilton staff has been wonderful and nothing to complain about but the Intercontinental staff were more personable and seemed to enjoy their job with always a genuine smile. RESTAURANTS: We tried all the restaurants offered at the hotel. Ecco--the all day cafe is excellent with a good a la carte menu as well as their buffets. Koi--the Japanese restaurant was very good, the sushi was very fresh, and the rolls were okay for our liking (too much mayonnaise). Jade Chinese--we've eaten here several times in past visits and it has consistently been excellent Cantonese and Shanghainese food. Sichuan Spice--we ate twice at the Sichuan place. The first time it was good and the second time we ordered this one dish that ruined our whole meal experience. The dish was a shrimp kung pao dish with dry chili and peanuts...but they also put in a large amount of something else...it looked like a dry herb or peppercorn (we couldn't tell what it was) but one bite into it our entire mouth had a weird tinkling sensation (it wasn't because it was spicy) that wouldn't go away for an hour and then we both felt light-headed immediately that lingered all night. We didn't complain to management about it. Even with our one bad Sichuan dish experience, we highly recommend this hotel. My husband sends all of his clients and employees to this hotel and they have all been very impress with the hotel and have had similar experiences as we have.More
