Best of basically anything you could want...room, food, pool, location. Club rooms are extra nice. I was a long time Hilton and Crowne Plaza guest and Intercontinental locations in China have won me over...just tremendous. Also have stayed in the new Intercontinentals in Hangzhou and Foshan and they are my favs as well!

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in October on my first trip to China from Australia and we were astounded by the staff, amenities and service at this hotel.

Although the hotel is not located in the city centre it's just a short cab ride to Nanjing East Road, the Bund, Shanghai Museum, etc.

We upgraded to a club room and so stayed in the Club Tower, a building separate from the Main Tower, with its own lobby, reception, etc. Our room was massive (60 sq) , tastefully furnished, very modern and high-teched as everything works with the push of a button, with a huge dressing room (great when you have lots of luggage), a fantastic Toto toilet, double wash basins, a very spacious shower room and a large bathtub. The room was well-serviced and kept sparkling clean.

Buffet breakfast and evening cocktails in the club lounge were generous with a good spread and the waiting staff and duty manager were very friendly, attentive and prompt.

Service was par excellence. For example, we accidentally (by not reading carefully the benefits of staying in a club room) incurred some charges and when we spoke to the reception staff they were waived without a fuss. Concierge was helpful and efficient in getting us cabs and booking our private tour to Suzhou and taxi to Hangzhou, our next stop on our trip. English didn't seem to be a problem for all the staff we dealt with.

This was the second Intercontinental hotel we've stayed at (the first was in Hanoi, Vietnam) and again all our expectations were more than met as it's truly a 5-star hotel.

I stayed 2 separate times during November, both times just as great.
The rooms in the club intercon building are possibly the nicest I have stayed in, the breakfast buffet was superb, great choice of food. We also had the buffet for the evening meal and really the only negative I could say - very minor.. was that the coke was a bit flat, I don't think I'll be looking for anywhere else to stay for my trips to shanghai.. this place is that nice!
I had stayed in the main tower previously.. it was still very nice!

Room tip: Club intercontinental if you can

My experience shows that the hotel has very helpful and friendly staff, even though as other major hotels in China, the staff speak limited English. The location is good as it is in the center of the business area - the office I visited just five minutes walking - and the subway station is about 7 minutes walking away with many places to choose for dining. But there are not actually many place there you can visit for entertainment.

I stayed in this hotel from the end of October until early November with a total 10 days. The first day I arrived, I found out that the taxi driver charged me too much. I paid RMB 190 for the taxi from Longyang Station where I got off from the Maglev train to the hotel. The staff at the receptionist told me that it should take less than RMB 100. He offered to help to check the taxi company. It was very good to know that he tried to make some calls even though at the end he could not get anyone from the taxi company to be responsible in getting my money back.

Another experience was when I was having breakfast in the restaurant on the first floor. I took a plate to put the noodle bowl on as the bowl was very hotel. One of the waitress saw that and stopped me and told me he would do that. That is really nice to know that the staff are always readily helpful and willing to help at anytime.

I like this hotel and if possible will stay there again.
