Beachcomber Island is beautiful. The main beach area is just gorgeous and you can see tropical fish right by the beach.

The free snorkel trip was well worth it, got to see lots of fish on the reef and the boat has a glass bottom for the less adventurous.

We had an oceanview bure which was tired but tidy and clean. Cold water in the fridge was a lifesaver. Only one of the windows had mesh, the others didn't. We left these open for the heat so a few mosquitoes drifted in to attack us. To be fair, the island as a whole had far fewer mozzies than expected, but the windows should either be meshed or nets offered. If you're travelling at this time of year (March) I would highly recommend you spend the extra money for air con. We melted in the humidity. In saying that, we were on the opposite side of the island from the main beach which is good; it was much cooler and breezier. The hammock was great!

The bar was nice - lots of room for sitting and the staff were all friendly. The one cocktail I had was good (and strong!) The bar pumped out really loud, bass-heavy music all day. Totally get it at night, but in the middle of the day it's a bit much. It was the only coolish shady area close to the beach so would've been nice to have a bit more of a chill vibe during the day. There are several happy hours throughout the day.

The pool was small but good and got some shade in the late afternoon.

The food was OK, but not awesome. There's plenty of it, but it's pretty basic and some of the meat options didn't appeal to me very much. More (and fresher) fruit would have been good. And more veges. In saying all that, if I was 25 and backpacking I think I would have been totally happy with it :) coffee got weaker as the morning wore on... would have been happy to pay for a good strong coffee if it had been available.

We had an off-schedule transfer booked - this cost more but was very quick. We were met at the airport, got a shuttle to Anchorage and a quick boat to the island. Coming back we were on the scheduled trip - this was cheaper but took us back via Denarau which was a longish stop. All up it took almost 2 hours which was about twice as long as the other trip. It was a nice trip but longer than we expected.

The original party island, unchanged since the nineties. Our ocean view Bure was tired and dated, not up to the standard of other two coconut resorts. Good atmosphere on the island, even in low season with enthusiastic and helpful staff. Lots to do here, plenty of free activities which other resorts would charge for (snorkel trips, cooking lessons etc).

Meals are cheap ($88 per day) but this is reflected in the quality. Having said that, they offer a light breakfast, morning and afternoon tea on top of breakfast, lunch and dinner. And almost every hour is a happy hour here!

Power comes from a huge diesel generator in the middle of the island which is noisy. Good WiFi also, and a well stocked shop. A nice little turtle sanctuary on the island too.

We arrived at Beachcomber to a complimentary drink and the staff singing and playing guitar which was lovely!

Check in was easy, but we were disappointed to find that they had split the male and female dorms so me and my partner were separated! We later found out that this was due to renovation work and wasn’t too much of a problem in the end! The dorm she was in was a 10 bed dorm, but the dorm me and our friend were in was an 84 bed dorm. Again, not a big issue, but there could be more plug sockets and somewhere to wash your feet before entering the room! Otherwise, lockers were great, the beds were comfy and the adjoining showers were clean with hot water! My friend had a mouse run across his bed in the night, but this was totally forgivable given the rural, island location!

The meal plan was well worth the money in our opinion; all you can eat buffet style of really good quality! We even got a free packed lunch upon check out!

The free activities were brilliant, and included turtle viewing, volleyball and even a boat trip to snorkel over a nearby reef! The snorkel gear was free too! All sorts of other water activities were available too and were reasonably priced! There was a swimming pool, but disappointingly, you had to pay for loungers!

The entertainment was fantastic!Polynesian dancing and limbo competition on the first night, and karaoke he second (although no one was up for it, which was a shame). Good music and a pool table in a lovely bar area, with plenty of seating! The lady who announces all the entertainment came across as though she was just ‘going through the motions’ though!

Staff overall were exceptionally friendly and the shop was a great bonus as it sells essentials like mosquito repellent, as well as souvenirs!

Great place and brilliant for the price, especially for backpackers! Would recommend as it’s also on the Yasawa Flyer route!

What a wonderful day we had. Went snorkeling even our 6 year grandson went and he was amazed by all the fish he saw. Had a wonderful lunch there and got to see the turtles they are raising and will release when they are bigger.

We spent two night at Beachcomber in December and loved it. We heard it had a reputation of being a party Island, but we actually found it to have a really good balance between chill and party.

The grand dorm isn't too bad. Of course it's a little crowded and can get noisy, but for the price it's reasonable, and I had no problem getting to sleep when I had an early night.

We paid 34 Fijian dollars each a night for a bed in the grand dorm (they gave us a special deal), and then there was a compulsory additional 89 dollars for the daily food package.

The food was decent – buffet, all you can eat style. Not as delicious as the food we had at Octopus Resort on Waya Island, but more than sufficient for our expectations and the price.

The daily free snorkelling trip is really good - if the weather is ok they go out once in the morning and once in the afternoon. They take you on a boat to a good coral spot close to the island. They also offer all the usual tours (Castaway, Cloud 9 etc) at reasonable prices.

The island itself is gorgeous - so small you can walk all the way around it in about ten minutes!

The bar area is really fun, there's a good friendly team of staff to get the social vibes going, and happy hours all through the day.

I treated myself to a massage on the last day for just 50 Fijian dollars – again, great for the price!

Beachcomber is an ideal way for backpackers on a budget to experience the Fijian islands. Would definitely visit again.
