I noticed that in the last Nappie Awards (annual reader votes on best of almost everything of note that run by Lagniappe newspaper “Something Extra for Mobile”) my favorite light lunch + coffeehouse place was selected as having the best gumbo in Mobile. It was a dish that I had never ordered there, although my wife and I frequently ate at Cream and Sugar. So we went for the Gumbo and loved it. Rich and with lots of “meat” and nicely light on liquid. Excellent seasoning with a moderate amount of salt. We really had been missing something but will compensate by making it our gotta have menu item.
Cream and Sugar is in one of the beautiful historic districts just off Government Street, adjacent to the equally excellent and upscale Kitchen on George.
